Replaced a O ring seal that seems to be the cause for loss of coolant. Fingers crossed there is no puddle on the floor this morning!

Went to ProMAX on xsaturday morning and got, new leads, plugs, dizzy, rotor, K&N and a chip. Wanted a DECAT but they are out of stock.

I changed the ignition components and air filter first and went for a spin. The car was alot smoother and no more hestitating at 2000rpm on a very light throttle.

I then put the chip in (ball ache getting the top board off) and wow what a difference car pulled better and had an increased rev limit as well it seemed.

However whilst out on that test the clutch decided to stick to the floor a few times..so I hoiked it back up..it was always on down changes strangly enough. So its going in this afternoon for the guys to take a look...I suspect it will need a new master/slave cylinder....

Saw the donor engine and my old motor side by side. Some interesting and puzzling differences. The old motor (1989) has green injectors the new (1991) has brown ones. The engine wiring loom on old motor has an extra plug, large circular 6 pin the new has none. So they are being swapped. can anyway explain the differences please.

Yesterday I collected my car following major sill repairs. I shall now be driving this car whenever possible. This is the first time since buying her in October 2011 that she's had no fluid leaks, and no life-threatening rust, and is now road legal again!

1991 944S2, 213000 miles. This oil leak from the rear end of the engine started after I had most of the front-end engine seals replaced because they were leaking. I think it is the main rear oil seal, which is why I have only done 372 miles in it over the last twelve months - concerned about any damage I might do to the flywheel and the clutch I had done 10000 miles ago.

Like most, the en-suite garage is too small to be useful once it's full of Porsche, and yesterday I finally got peed-off of waiting for the weather to allow me to do any work on the car - which would mean another weekend wasted. Finally the weather was bearable enough to bring the S2 out of the garage and put it up on ramps and I spent a good few hours of yesterday under the car trying to determine where the oil leak comes from. I completely gunked the underside of the engine and towelled it dry. There was one very slow drip from the sump plug that I had observed over the winter, so slow I never actually watched it long enough to see it drip, and as expected I found that the sump plug was not quite tight - that's the easy one done. After running the engine I have found that the oil leak is either the rear oil seal or the rear of the sump gasket - a very very slow run down from the middle of the rear of the sump (if you can imagine what I'm on about) which dries up before it actually drips. The problem is I cannot get the protective plate off to clean behind it and therefore determine exactly where the source is. I can get the bottom 17 mil bolt out, but cannot loosen the top one. Too restrictive to get a socket in there, and the spanner has rounded the bolt head a bit.

I will try again tomorrow to see if the flats of the bolt head are good enough to use, otherwise what......? Any suggestions to get it out please? And why is it so tight!

Any helpful suggestions appreciated.

While I had it up on ramps I also changed the washer water bottle, for which you have to take out the off-side headlight motor and the ignition coil- well I think that's what it is. Not a hard job anyway.

Noooo! I've heard of this problem, but managed to avoid it myself.

Dropped my car off at George Morrison to have a destroyed rear wheel bearing replaced, fit a replacement ABS pump, brake fluid change, flush and refill gearbox and see if he can pinpoint my drivetrain idle noise I get when it's heated up although I don't expect to get that resolved. Would be nice to know exactly what it is though before planning on my next move.

Incidentally how good is the 944 ABS when it works, I've never had the pleasure as my pump has been seized during my time of ownership. I gather it's pretty primitive, but how functional is it?

Cheers

Stuart

944 ABS is certainly functional and does the job.

I remember once doing an emergency stop in my 86 turbo that has no ABS a couple of years ago and it took a second or so of "Oh my god" for my brain to engage the "old school" leg-draulic ABS system... But thats why I love that car, no ABS, no LSD very little lag.. Not so much a widowmaker like my 80's 911 turbo, but certainly a face slapper that demands a bit of respect on the edge.

My later turbos have ABS which is as good as nearly any other abs system, as long as your disks, pads, fluid, geometry and calipers are all as they should be.

When Jamie here at JMG was first in his apprenticeship he cracked a 944 cab windscreen changing the bonnet struts, was about the 10th set he had changed, but it taught him a new level of respect and something extra to keep an eye on... The customer was well pleased that for the cost of a couple of bonnet struts she got a new screen, as her's did have a million little pits from stones!

Picked up my car tonight. Rear wheel bearing done and ABS pump changed, brake fluid flushed and changed, gearbox oil changed, blocked vent on gearbox cleared, some washers replaced on PAS system to cure a leak, new PAS fluid, both rear back plates secured, heat shield above starter secured, all 8 bleed nipples were seized, one needed replaced - the others survived. What a difference the new fluid and working ABS pump makes, super sharp braking now. Checked history, last brake fluid change was 7 years and 30k miles ago. Oops!

Still no further forward with chittery rumbly sound from g/box at idle after a spirited drive. Just gonna forget that and drive it now! Box will get a rebuild if and when it needs it but for the time being it has new fluid, no leaks and works perfectly.

Recently the old porker has been busy, still racking up the miles!

It just passed its MOT with only adbosories being a missing dust cap (? not sure where?) and an oil leak which its always had and will be fixed.

Fitted a sony DAB and a new roof aerial which is working very nicely indeed. Removed the rear wiper as it was dead. I have left the wiring in place but removed the motor. With the rear screen rainExed it is fine and one day I might fix the motor.

Ordered rear poly bush set off ebay that was found by one of our group - will fit that and report back on the ease of fitment, ride quality and squeaks. There is a lot of mixed feelings towards poly bushes but you cant know until you try it!

Lots of work still to do but loving the car more an dmore
