I think so Andy! It's a piss poor design in my opinion in the first place and it becomes even worse when your car is decked. It's also an eye watering price new from Porsche for what amounts to a curly metal tube with fins on it!

I don't know anything about the gearbox oil cooler but could it be worth looking into something like a mocal replacement if it breaks again? Hopefully most robust and the 80s design and probably considerable cheaper than a Porsche replacement.

Yeah I was thinking that. Mine had snapped clean in half at the curly bit, most unusual. It's clearly taken a big thud and may well be weakest at a point where it bends. Anyway, will be very careful and see how long this one lasts.

The ends seemed fine Jon and it's certainly not leaking at the moment. I will make sure I check it every month or so as I don't fancy replacing my LSD box!!

Cheers

Stuart

Still waiting for a new engine rebuild to be completed, car to be resprayed and to bring them back together ASAP. Lots of renewed, refreshed and refurbished parts to throw on both when I get them back. Roll on Spring and enjoying this bloody 924 turbo on the road again!

That definately seems like overkill, powder coating glove box hinges! Sprayed mine with Plasticote Project paint (black about 4 years ago and still look black and no marks.

Lol

I'm out of black spray paint and its costing me less than buying a can, plus I wanted to get a price having the ARB's done anyway.

Cant argue with that then, mine was left over from spraying up light fittings in the house years before.

Fitted my recently acquired aluminium undertray then realised I couldn't get the car back off the axle stands as the tray prevents jacking on the castor blocks! No wonder most turbo's don't have this tray fitted! I was able to get the jack onto the wishbone itself after a quick assessment of what was available. Not sure if it's safe to jack there or if I'm risking bending the wishbones! Maybe someone can enlighten me. The joys of a decked turbo with a full compliment of undertrays fitted!

If consensus is that jacking on the wishbones is bad I will chop a square out the tray to allow jacking on the castor block again. I'm curious to see the effect of this 3rd tray as JMG reckons it helps keep the nose of the car down at speeds above 80 mph and to be fair it has a couple of snazzy end plates on it like an F1 front wing!! We'll see!

I had a little fire yesterday nothing as spectacular as yours, mine was only from welding a nut onto the sheared stud which after 10 attempts it has not removed the stud (as I am now going to have to remove the outlet pipe im treating myself to a broadspeed racing item as a replacement)

Im sure I will suffer this problem too though as I have a full compliment of poly bushes sat here waiting to go on the car.

After a 15hr mission of a drive back from the alps in the little Golf yesterday I got back to my car. Frozen and left out side for a week she fired first turn of the key and wasn't frozen in side. Let it running while I popped back into the girlfriends parents house to get my bag. Her Dad started his 56 plate Citreon and it clatters and sounds terrible!! I lifted the roof out and blasted off :) great fun being back in it.

The fire photos are fun - how much / where did you get the poly bush sets for those?
