Took the trip to Brooklands. Only one other 944 there - a white Turbo- plus a couple of 968's and a smattering of 928's.

Had a chat with a very nice chap who has a oval dash 85 model in the same Sapphire hue as mine...you meet the nicest people in a 944 :D

Had a look at the passenger door as I seemed to be hearing water slooshing about and often a wet carpet in the back footwell of a morning after it rains. Off the back of a recent post I cleared the three drain holes on the door (one was blocked and some water came out) and then looked at the door seal and found a couple of spots of damage at the top where water could easily flow through. Sealed these up with some sealant (black silicone!) and this morning it seemed ok. Boot lid seal looks like it needs replacing as well.

Good run in the car back from a NYE party with the roof panel out - enjoyed myself there!

Replaced a snapped gearbox oil cooler, snapped clean in half! Must have rattled something with it, poor gearbox was whining it's head off last night, now I know why lol!

Anyway replaced it with a 2nd hand one from Alasdair, refilled it and it all quietened down after about 5/10 minutes. These gearboxes are really tough cookies, I must have done 30 miles with no gearbox oil last night and it would appear I did not kill it!

I think so Andy! It's a piss poor design in my opinion in the first place and it becomes even worse when your car is decked. It's also an eye watering price new from Porsche for what amounts to a curly metal tube with fins on it!

I fitted my new grey Club Sport steering wheel to the S2:

and put the black Club Sport wheel out of the S2 into the Lux:

I also fitted a new battery to the S2 and started her up for the first time in months. It was too wet for a drive though :( so I took the Lux to the shops. Oh, and I put my ebay bargain cargo net in the boot.

Completely dismantled the odometer, and replaced both gears that had become loose and slippery, so therefore not turning on the shaft. Manually turned it to add the amount of miles I think I've covered since it stopped working!

The CS steering wheels look good, so much better than the lozenge :)

Removed broken stereo, ready to fit the new Pyle PLRCS19U Car Cassette Player, then realised the speakers where wet... new speakers to order, the door cards are wet... need to reseal the doors... One simple job has just ballooned... I love my car, this should keep me good until the clutch is fixed. :D

Ordered a replacement ECU - hopefully light at the end of the tunnel for all my non start/poor running issues...

Fingers crossed for a dry weekend so I can get some running at last!

I don't know anything about the gearbox oil cooler but could it be worth looking into something like a mocal replacement if it breaks again? Hopefully most robust and the 80s design and probably considerable cheaper than a Porsche replacement.

With the gearbox oil coolers one of the common problems other than being damaged by road debris, is that the ends corrode away or frett where they are clamped and where the o-ring sits.

If you have one with a faulty end, post it to us and we can fit new ends to them :) good preventative maintenance to check them and have them replaced if they look bad, as sorting them out is cheaper than having them spring a leak and eventually mashing the internals of the transmission and LSD

I looked at my white 86 turbo today with longing eyes, told the apprentice to valet it and decided it will be getting Koni shocks, 968 caster mounts and 968 MO30 anti roll bars as a winter present while it is in hiding from the foul weather.

Also decided the next cars to go will be my 89 Turbo SE in baltic blue and my other white 86 turbo.. :(

In 2012 I tried to cut down my car collection.. Sold 3 (two S2's and one 968) of my cars... Unfortunately I bought another 4 cars (930 Turbo, 944 Turbo, another 968 and an S2) I could not resist, and the S2 is a breaker, so does not count! lol
