i hear what your saying! if it was that much work i probably wouldnt bother, as tbh, it will ikely just turn into another project that gets halted half way through!

im just starting to think that the money i have tied up in my evo is a bit excessive for something that gets used a handful of times a year as a track dedicated car, and thought this 924t could be a good alternative for much less money.

although im also quite sure fitting a 944t engine could cost more than i originally budget for, and i could end up with another expensive track only car.

the cheaper and quicker option would be to just carry on prepping it and stick with the 924t engine and have some fun in the car for cheap. im just slightly worried about reliability of the std engine for track use? my evo is a bit of an animal, and i dont want to regret selling it and being underwhelmed by this, so i thought this car with 300+hp from a 944t engine would make a pretty quick car.

if i can attach a 944t engine to the 924t torque tube and leave the rest of the car as it is, then its something i may consider doing. if its going to be a massive headache with compatibility then i will likely not bother.

I have got the 924 turbo in the workshop atm, had a bit of spare time so thought I would have a good look over the car and start doing some jobs to get it ready for some fun.

I really cant believe the condition this car is in! everything is in near perfect condition. everything on the underside is like new, fuel pipes, brake pipes, bushes, droplinks, suspension components, rear torsion tube carriers/adjusting bolts etc.

the car has obviously been acid dipped aswell as there is not a drop of seam sealer to be seen! and even better, not a spec of rust throughout!!

really is very good! I will take some pictures of the underside and components etc when I get a chance!

jobs I have carried out so far include

replacement of x2 seized calipers, also full replacement of brake fluid for superblue high temp stuff, at the same time replaced the clutch fluid which was old and had high water content when tested

all service items on the way to me tomorrow, oil, oil filter, cambelt, alternator belt, spark plugs, dizzy cap and arm, fuel filter, coolant, gearbox oil,

I removed the old cambelt ready to fit the new one

replaced the battery cut off switch with a new one as the old one was temperamental.

gave the cage another coat of yellow paint, and refitted the drivers seat

adjusted handbrake

ordered rollcage padding so I can get the passenger side all covered as I will be fitting a pass seat soon

I have a full intercooler kit to fit aswell

will update the thread with pics and updates at the weekend once I have carried out most of the work

hoping to get out on track in this next month

will take some pics along the way!

a couple of questions!

is the steering shaft uj specific to the 924t, if so where can I find one? and is it a nightmare to fit?

does the 924t have a standard dump valve? is it built into the turbo? if so does it need to be blanked off if I use an external dump valve (as found on your ic kit steve?)

gearbox oil grade to use?

main things to check (engine wise) on a car that's been sat about for a few years. the car starts on the button, from hot or cold, and runs perfectly.

many thanks
nick

There's a business in Coventry that replaces the steering shaft UJ's. No issue in removing with a lift just cramped. Rack or crossmember needs loosening to do it.

The turbo had a recirculating valve built in. DV? Jury is out whether you need one or not with inbuilt recirculating valve. I don't have on on my current build.

most of the servicing now carried out, just need to fit the spark plugs (bosch w3dpo platinum electrode)

im starting to seriously consider using this as my main track day car! once I have taken it on a shakedown trackday, if I get along with it, then im considering retiring and selling my evo track car and using this.

it might just be because im used to my evo's alcon 6 pot 365mm brakes, but the pedal on this feels quite spongy and a few inches of travel. is this usual? anyway of getting some better pedal feel? I have changed the brake fluid for superblue, and the car has braided lines all round. also please recommend the best pads to use for track use? it currently has ebc pads, and in my evo I managed to kill a set of ebc pads in about 6 laps before upgrading to the alcon setup!

if I use this for my track day car, it means I can sell up the evo, and my caterham, and have enough to buy a nice 996 turbo!

im still also really tempted to put a Carrera gt kit and fuch wheels on it if I keep it! I just love the look of the cgt! plus I can fit some brembo brakes to it then!

sfs silicone hoses have turned up so the intercooler is all ready to fit now. I also bought a new remanufactured turbo for the car to give piece of mind everything is tip top!

more rollcage padding just turned up aswell to finish the cage off

lots of work planned for this very soon so will take a load of pics and updates for those interested.

How about another option, what about fitting a VAG 1.8 turbo engine (robust and tuneable) and the CGT body kit and racing it in the CSCC Modsports and special Saloons race series.

that's an option, but tbh I would rather keep it original at the minute. I have just been getting the car all up together and getting it how I want it, then I will take it to a trackday for a shakedown.

was at castle combe on Tuesday in my evo, and saw a red/white 924 out on track, anyone on here?

spent some time today modifiying the front mount intercooler kit that I bought, pretty much got it all in place, a few mods to make but its all in place now and looking forward to seeing how it improves power output.

car is starting to come together now, sorry for the lack of pictures just been very busy, will get pics up of the modifications very soon

thanks
nick

Sounds like you're making good progress 8)

I think the red/white car will be Steve as he's been running his car there recently.

Got the front mount intercooler all fitted and the car runs! Took a while to get it all to fit under the bonnet without touching but it's all good now. Just need to ensure cooling is adequate as the intercooler is sitting in front of the rad so I will be keeping an eye on temps and will mod it if needed. Also need to check it all runs right and boosts up with no leaks etc. making good progress and hope to test the car soon.
