Thanks for the replies and all your investigative work. However I'm perfectly happy with it and will be keeping it. I have been under it on the ramp and had a good check round and everything looks fine, front wings may not be perfectly straight but to me it's hardly the end of the world. I have also done a fair few miles and the way it has been driven combined with the weather if it wasn't solid it would be in a hedge by now

As I said before if the worst comes to the worst I can break it. I paid £800 for it, from pricing the brake parts i need from my KG came to ~£300, and the engine, gearbox, torque tube, suspension, bodywork, electrical bits etc etc would all still be there to break and sell, so it's unlikely I'm going to loose much if anything on it. I always had this in the back of my mind when i bought it.

Enjoy your car Stu :) Thats the most important thing.

At £800, if the worst comes to the worst you wouldn't lose any money breaking the car! :)

There seems to be far too many harsh comments in my opinion on this thread, I can understand people mean well but honestly, HPi'ing someones car without their permission from what I can tell just seems rather intrusive.

As for painted black sills, I've seen this on many MGBs that I have owned, that have had solid bodywork underneath, so just because it's a different colout doesn't mean it isn't solid...

I wouldn't worry too much about it being a write off at the money and age, mine is too although was only 4 years ago so bit less value to my car when it was written off.

Just don't fall into the trap of spending too much on it and if you get a year or so fun out of it for a couple of weeks wages you've had a good time. Worse way it's £500 spares or repair on fleabay when the mot runs out to some guy that wants a project to sell untouched 6 months later to another guy that wants a project to lose interest in

A cheap ok car can be a good way of finding out if you can live with them long term and a great way of finding out if you're commited to owning one. I've a bad habit of buying cars and just running them till they fall apart so I've started with a shed to see if I'll look after one before shopping for a good example getting bored of it and taking a big hit in the pocket at resale time due to my neglect a year or so later.

If you're a bit of a retro petrol head you'll love the cars, they're very addictive.
