Pulled the injectors to try out my new cleaner/tester. One is down 10% I have a spare set which all ran equal so new rubbers etc and they'll be going in. Gearbox is back just waiting for an oil seal and speedo gear. Cups are back and looking good.

Have not used the car much so thought I would get it up and running, question when cold the oil pressure is showing 5bar at idle 500rpm,
is this about right or is it to high when cold (relief valve sticking ?)
When hot the oil pressure showing 3bar at idle 500 rpm.
Oil pressure at 1500 rpm hot showing just over 4bar,
Pictures in reverse order.
one other question, the top of the dash and the bottom of the dash speaker has some small cracks starting, can any type of glue or repair be carried out to stop any advancing damage.

When cold, your oil pressure will be high but when hot and at idle, it should be between 1 and 1.5 bar. Your idle speed should be iro 800 +/- 50.

http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/fuel-08.htm

Before you go mucking about with the relief valve, have you checked your oil pressure sender unit?
When was the last oil and filter change?

That crack: you can get a vinyl repair kit. If you spend time with the colour mix, it's repairable. I have used it on a dash before but apart from that, there's little bar a transplant that you can do.

Thanks for that, will do an oil filter change first, has not been carried out for sometime due to little to no use also increase the idle speed.

I also note that the oil pressure gauge needle flicks a little when the headlight switch is operated.

Please read Clark's notes regarding idle speed. It something that should not need altering.
It's possible that your tacho is not registering the idle speed properly (old gauges. To verify the idle, you might need an oscilloscope). This leads on to:

What you said "oil pressure needle flicks..." suggests bad earth and if that is the case, perhaps all your earths need to be looked at. Perhaps even, the oil sender unit is not registering properly because of a bad earth. You said the car has been sat for a while.

When I sorted my earths out, the difference in the car and all the functions was chalk and cheese.
I'm not familiar with the square dash 944 in any way but look for an earth diagram.

the wiring diagrams are in the manuals which are available @ www.pdlibrary.co.uk

It's fun to see it in operation especially the acceleration test which goes up to 7500 rpm. If anyone wants me to do theirs just pm me and I'll do it at cost of post. I also have a filter removal tool (glorified wood screw). I've almost as much stuff as Edd China, it's a byproduct of lockdown boredom.

Never to old Rob

Your only as old as you feel, when you stop feeling, your old!

I will post the only picture I have of my one I owned in 1981 later, back in the day we were a group of mates that were brought together by Bikes, we are all still friends 40 years later and 80% of us are still bikers!
