Hi Morghen,

I assume you mean mine as it's the only red 951 on the last page, if so?....thanks...:) I've owned her for a very long time and she still brings a big smile to my face each time I drive her. Over the years I have driven some very powerful cars from various marque's, as of yet, none have come even close to how this car performs. I count myself very lucky, this car wasn't cheap when I bought her more than 18 years ago, I couldn't afford to buy her now, the value of these cars today has increased beyond my means.

cheers

Pete

Yes, I meant your 951.
Have driven an 87 with about 330hp and LSD..it was fantastic and smooth.
Your car looks great, congrats and enjoy it.

In the meantime I'm driving my factory spec 931 and enjoying its raw character.

Driving it in the city, and also a bit outside...its not the easiest car to drive around the city but far easier than my wider GTS wannabe.
Stopped on the side of the road for a few shots from my trip to pick up the GT seats base for sandblasting.

nice car...I was reading an article a few weeks back saying how rare the 931 was becoming and how it was affecting their values, going up I'm happy to say. Great cars both on and off the track, a better drag coefficient than the 944 too....:)

Cam and balance belt change carried out at Zuffenhaus! Got a free tee shirt too!
Thanks Mike and Paul.

Had the belts & rollers done at Colwood Motorsports. Whilst it was up on the ramp the fuel tank breather pipe got fixed, the nose under tray (batwing) was correctly fitted and found the issue with the mystery steering knock. The non working horn was also sorted. Thanks to Harvey at Colwood for all of the above.
Tonight I have replaced the glove box lamp, fitted the new boot light assembly but the idiots in the the spares shop have supplied me with wrong size lamp so I can 't test it & I left them with the broken one when we got the spares & the replacement interior light fitting for the cockpit turned out to be a side indicator lens when I opened the box

The 931 is quick but not fast, its a great sports car for the road and perhaps to a certain extent a good track car....but with their prices increasing, their numbers dropping every year I would not track a 931...especially the one I have. I'd turbocharge a NA and transplant the 944 brakes to replicate a 931...and keep the 931 for the original experience.

Speaking of which, drove it yesterday for a barbeque about 50km round trip, today just for a coffee and some food shopping.
Tomorrow will drive the 931 to the mountains nearby a 300km round trip.
No oil leaking anymore from the oil cap, cam seal or head cover seals, fresh belts and alternator 3D printed bushings as well as a new water pump make for a silent engine and pleasant to look at 931 engine bay.

Replaced the broken glovebox arms and refitted the glovebox lid. After reading on here, I double checked the operation of the glovebox light switch just to make sure it goes off- it does
Removed the passenger seat ready to go for upholstery repair and vacuumed all the rubbish found under the seat.
Thought I'd get the car ready for the next days planned work-tailgate & bonnet strut replacement.
Disconnected the first three electrical connectors without a problem apart from one snapping the cable  Last connection was an absolute pig and took ages to get off but eventually managed it. Repaired the broken wire, not pretty but it works. Checked the new struts & then struggled to take them apart ready to receive the electrical connectors from the old ones.
Still can't find where the petrol is venting from- garage absolutely stinks of fuel even leaving the windows open

Well having struggled to get the cab thro' the last few MOT's due to emissions , spoke to Eddie at Silvertune last meeting , and he suggested changing the DME Temp sensor.Eurocar parts supplied one at the huge cost of £2.59 and I fitted it yesterday. My last tank of fuel averaged 23.8mpg , but the following one ( having swopped the sensor ) saw this increase to 27.5mpg - RESULT!!.Probably the best consumption I've had for the last five years!!Probably need to put this on a gas analyser to confirm its within limits , but back of a fag packet calculations look good.
Just one more tankful before I hit the quarter of a million mile mark!!

Toby

I've had a bit of an issue with the car over the last couple of days and couldn't quite work out what was up....symptoms were confusing... idle was a little erratic... would sit high when cold (1600) and only drop down to about 1200 when warm, this after a sudden drop to around 800 before settling at 1200. The exhaust was burbling a lot more too and not just on overrun, but idle too. Add to this a flutter under load but not on high boost which would kick in about 4 out of 5 times with no signs of flutter....this confused me a little clearly I had an air leak but also seem to have a boost leak too, were they linked or were they a coincidence that was leading to further confusion. I could not find any sign of hoses being loose, or such
Today being a nice sunny day I decided it was time for a road test to hopefully find the problem, a quick blast up the A41 was what the doctor ordered. Before getting to the main road I noticed that the flutter was still there (on and off) and that it would still boost when no flutter making think that the hoses were ok. Once on the A41 I could push a little harder, the car was fast but didn't feel as fast as it usually is, I applied more throttle than I ever have before and although I was accelerating rapidly it still felt slow, the solenoid was clicking away as per usual.
It then dawned on me that something was missing, other than the usual very rapid acceleration that is...there was no 'blip' from the boost gauge to say that I had hit 1BAR? I have this set as a warning to stop me getting carried away as with the duty cycle set as it is(85%) the boost can spike to very high levels. Usually, this blip sounds within a second or two of hitting boost and here I was sitting on an empty stretch of A41 moving quickly bust no blip? I floored it (96%) car ran perfectly, nice and smooth but no sudden push into the seat as was the norm and I looked at the boost gauge that was fixed at 0.9BAR, it would not go higher. Aha, I say there must be a boost leak somewhere although in the past the car wouldn't run so smoothly with any of the hoses lose.

I stopped at my son's in Tring and over a coffee took a closer look at the car, at first I couldn't see anything but then noticed that the intercooler connection to throttle hardpipe had slipped off the pipe and yet was in such a position close to the lamp pole that it blended into the hard pipe, I mean it was up tight against the edge of the hardpipe and thus was sealed but clearly the hose was flexing under boost, especially when high. Great I say and after a bit of juggling I had the hose repositioned and tightened up ( note to self, make the proper hardpipes up and ditch these supposedly temporary ones). That left the idle issues to sort, again after a little rooting around and checking the most obvious items i discovered that the throttle idle valve's seal was looking a little hard. I had some 'O' rings in the car (part of my classic car tool kit) and found one that wasn't perfect but close enough, I wrapped some PTFE tape around the thread and reset the idle to 900rpm.

Result?...what a difference.....I had my amazing speed machine back with all of it's horses running together again, it's amazing the difference between 0.9BAR and 1.2BAR... don't get me wrong the car was still very fast with the issue, it just didn't have that..OMG feeling as you try to hold on to the steering wheel.....I was good and didn't take it to the 1.5BAR that the overboost protection is set at...

I'm a happy boy again and it was such a simple fix even if a little confusing having two separate issues at the same time....:) So, if anyone else with a modified turbo has similar problems hopefully this post may help.......

Pete

Went for a drive in the mountains last weekend.
This last one I tackled the AC system on the 931 only to find that it had the wrong relay installed :o
Need to source the correct AC relay now...

Went along to the Piston heads Sunday service at Santa Pod yesterday morning in the 924. Gave me an excuse to stretch its legs (and celebrate it turning 35 a few weeks ago) with a 120 mile round drive, look round an unbelievable mix and match of cars combined with a good bit of action on the strip.

Plenty of new Porsche's but only one transaxle 8)
