That looks great. Is the red painted in?

Yes Matt I just painted the red (Ford Mondeo 1998 code 36) and as I am a toolmaker machining over the top was easy and I have to say I have been skimming cyl heads since the late sixties and found the Porsche alloy very close grained and good quality.

Today I drove it to the coast and back, then fitted an eccentric steering wheel adaptor so my Momo when doesn't sit on my knees anymore and I can see the dials :D

... so envious of the space non-turbo owners have in their engine bay!

Probably a bit of an anticlimactic post, but I've just got around to fitting new modern style wiper arms. I've retro fitted a set of new flat wiper arms (not just the aftermarket blades). I'll post pictures tomorrow, the effect is actually very good, the arms now are much less visible, and you get to see more of the beautiful bonnet lines when driving.

We put my newly acquired 968 Coupe on a ramp today to have a first look at the underside. It is great, no rust, no evidence of accident damage, exhaust system is fine all looks tickety boo. Yesterday I replaced the faulty rear window wiper motor and fitted new seals behind the external door handles.

Finished the cam install today.

It's a bit lumpy under 2500 rpm and I need to adjust the tappets and fine tune the timing and fuel mixture but it runs quite well. I also think that the timing belt tensioner is a bit tight so will slacken that off a bit too.
I had it running for 20 minutes at 2000 rpm then took it for a quick spin and all seems to be good. Tomorrow I'll take it to penrith and back which is around 100 miles and on the a595 and a66 I should be able to manage a steady 55-60 mph.

Sounds interesting, what wiper arms did you use?

Fed up of not driving her recently due to the knock on the suspension causing a pull to the left under braking I braved the weather, got her up on ramps and set to with the pry bar....

It appears the link/ bush at the end of the ARB has sheared where it meets the lower wishbone.

At least it should be an easy fix.... Will refurb the bar at the same time and replace all the bushes. Any tips on doing this?

Image

I now have the diameter of my ARB so it's time to go shopping

Image.

Seems I may have a small oil leak from the front somewhere..... doesn't seem to be using noticeable amounts so will keep an eye on this...

Battled briefly with rusted bits but the ARB is now off exposing the knackered bushes and a touch more than a bit of aluminium oxide.... Needed the larger of my adjustable spanners to get to grips with broken bit... The photos tell the full story :)

ARB now being prepped for paint and new bits which I just need to source. I'm sure Stu has the bushes so will call in the shop this week. Will see what Adam at Bolton OPC can rustle up on the shiny metal bits.

Cleaning up the brackets that bolt to the drop link and there appears to be a discrepancy between them :!: one is done, the other isn't yet...

Image

Image

Apart from the difference in size and guage of steel used, the larger is a Porsche item whereas the other is VW...

Onwards and forwards in search of a Porsche one....

Today I started some "cosmetic stuff" on the 944. The speedometer had to be dismantled as something was caught inside:

Next job was the quartz clock...

The quartz clock was defect - aren't they all? So I ordered the repair set of WPO via German ebay.
The clock repair was a walk in the park, there is a nice tutorial on Youtube:

Another little job done!

That little piece of paper is a nuisance. My 1987 944 speedo suddenly showed just the same but it fell down the front of the dial and can still be seen just in the bottom..............i will leave it there unless something else happens to make me dismantle.
