Visited Daytona Coachworx to get a progress report on my car. Very pleased that the minor rust areas being dealt with did not hide anything more serious in the sills. Looking forward to getting it back soon.

With temperatures over 80f today, my temperamental drivers window finally said NO !
Driving in a mobile greenhouse wasn't fun so i removed the motor and window mech.
cleaned ths mechanism and removed some corrosion.
stripped the motor out and cleaned internal gears and re lubed.

Its not perfect but its working again :D

Fitted a couple of new clips to secure my drivers side window scraper. About 70p each from OPC. Now sits nice and flush and doesn't move!

Also investigated glove box light failure. Bulb. Phoned OPC, 1 pound odds in stock, result! Zoomed down to collect it, wrong bulb!! Turns out there are 2. A fatter, longer 10w one and a slimmer, smaller 3w one. I need the latter. 5 quid and needs ordered!!

Also noticed an S2 cab in the workshop and a guards red turbo up on the ramps. Apparently the late model turbo was purchased for £14k and the bill so far, clearly not the final bill, is about £20k. Christ knows what is being done to it. The mind boggles. Dunno if it belonged to OPC or a punter.

Whilst the parts guys tried to get me the correct bulb both came out to see my car and were very complimentary. Very nice indeed in amongst probably millions of pounds worth of pork in a very busy car park/showroom!

Stuart

Tonight I started to strip the front hubs ready for my new discs and pads but cant get the discs off. They're soaking in GT 85 now and I have some handy hints from Waylander and AndyS....

One side went like a dream in dismantling bar the disc being stuck but on the other one of the set screws is stuck fast though and the end of the bit sheared off in the head of the screw so its going to be out with the tools again tomorrow to drill it out or something.... :( still its one of those problems to solve and overcome... :)

Have stripped the front callipers though "whilst I'm in there" to give them a fettle and halt any corrosion under the plates. They came off OK as they had Torx in the them :D - there is some corrosion but not much... out with Dremel tomorrow :)

After all the work that I've done on my 944 over the last few weeks it went back into daily service yesterday.

Concerning buzzing from the back left, was concerned it was the fuel pump. A few nervous minutes getting home, found out it was the bloody wiper motor! (it's never worked) - unplugged it and left it, now nice and quiet :)

Also checked the vaccum lines for a leak as my idle was around 400rpm which was flashing my oil light - all found!

Now to locate the clunking coming from the front left....

Properly clean engine bay Neilos :) can only dream of that at present....

Finally got the new discs and pads fitted over the weekend....

My workshop for the weekend
Image

Ground a new socket in the old screwhead ( and part of the old disc as well...

Image

Which didn't work as intended, it just stripped the rest of the head but left the shank in the hub :(

Image

After soaking in DT85 overnight though the disc came away with a few deft blows of a large persuading device :)

Image

Cleaned up the spacers....

Image

and put the new discs on with a very thin application of copper grease :) :)

Image

Took the opportunity of cleaning up the callipers i.e. grinding out some corrosion from under the plates and treating them to a new coat of high temp paint and high temp silicone under the plates :D

These were the worst of the callipers.....
Image

Image

All reassembled and back together, wheels balanced and away we go..... :) crept over the 110,000 miles mark as well....

Picking up my car from the bodyshop tomorrow. Rust dealt with and bump strips restored. It will actually start looking presentable rather than a work in progress.

Finished giving the car some rear end love

Drive shafts removed, cleaned, checked and repacked with grease
Replaced the rear shocks
Replaced the gearbox oil seals as one side was seeping
New gearbox oil

First impressions?? So, so much quieter at speed and when coasting. All whining has pretty much gone and its a nicer place to be. Happy with the results and worth getting covered in CV grease and gearbox oil

Also sanded back and resprayed the fron window surround in satin black as it was looking a bit battered from stones and dead things that had hit it.

Bonded the hockey sticks to my spare (surplus to requirements), restoration project bridge spoiler glass hatch, that should prevent them coming off!
