Any updates on this?

My bottom hinge has completely come away inside the door and the new paint job is getting ruined every time I open the door. It's so bad that the car is under the weather cover now until the problem has been resolved - or a solution has been discovered that will allow me to move forward with fixing it.

I'm sure there are no fixings inside the door - internal welding seems to be the way that they made the door originally.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Where abouts is your paint being damaged?

Front bottom corner of door where it rubs inside the wing when it opens.

I can get hold of the bottom of the door and move it in and out. It's definitely inside the door. There is no play in the hinges.

John have you removed your door card and physically inspected your door hinge fixings ???

The part shown on the 911 webpage clearly shows that the door hinge is bolted inside the door.
How else would you be able to adjust the door shut alighnment ?

It should be a simple matter of removing your door card adjusting the door alignment and re-tightening your door hinge bolts unless the hinge fixing part of the door has rusted or broken in some way .

Thank you, now I know why I have marks here. I have not noticed any movement though but I will certainly now check.

Unfortunately the part on the 911 page is the part that fastens to the bodywork. The hinge pin goes in the hole and then the other half of teh hinge slides into the door and is fastened in - although I don't know how.

Been on to Porsche today about this. He says the door is made with the hinges welded in situ, then the inner panel and outer skin are fitted on. He said it is not a mechanical fault and that I should go to a bodyshop.

I have a spare door that I am going to give to a bodyshop to practice on and then they can fix mine - my thinking being that it will be easier to respray my door if necessary because the base colour is correct, rather than try and spray a door of a different colour.

A waste of a good 944 door..... but there you go.

Finally resolved. Took the old door that I had bought , had it completely stripped and resprayed inside and out by the same guy who recently resprayed the car, same paint etc, so that you would never know it had been a different shade of blue, then gave it to a garage to have it changed over. It's been five weeks but it opens and closes a treat now, and I would say that replacement of the door is the only way to resolve faulty door hinges that 'drop'.

Got it back yesterday, but on the down side the MOT expired last week so I can't use it yet.

My door drops as it were too. Im going to loosen the lock staple that is bolted to the door jamb and see if the alignment is acceptable in the door "frame" I'm alone in the hills of southern Spain so no help available. Don't fancy interfering with the door mounting bolts alone.
