Here's a picture of the original caster block that came off my car compared with the updated 968 version on top. The new one has much less rubber so does not allow the rear of the wishbone to 'wander around' as much and therefore reduces the tramline effect. Incidentally the original ones are no longer available and have been superceded by the 968 version for all models.

That's interesting. How much do these new blocks/bushes cost then?

Berlyn services do a pair for around £100. The WSM also advises replacing the locknuts when you do the job.

That's not too shabby a price. I am planning on replacing front shocks this year so might look into replacing these.
I was just thinking though, rubber tends to harden with age so I wonder how the older design contributes to the tramlining, unless they all did it from new (which I find hard to believe). More likely they perish/shrink/crack I spose.

Yup Adam they shrink away from the sleeve. One of mine has started to do that although not to bad at the mo.
I managed to get a pair of 968 ones on E Bay for around £60 the pair. I think they were wrongly listed so people couldn't find them. Might be worth asking John at OPC Tonbridge for a price as with TiPEC discount it could be reasonable.

Can you just do a visual check or is it worth trying to bar it somehow to check for play?

Indeed, you know I have to shop around for the best deal as I can't stand opening the wallet ;)

How about these if they go for $200 that's £150 shipped!

You probably wouldn't notice without using violence on it, I noticed mine whilst swapping them on to my new wishbones last year, if I'd have the bushes then I'd have swapped them straight away but I didn't

Smart ar5e, bare in mind that mine cost me something around £2,000 to get MOT'd last year. Becky nearly killed me!
