Forgot the piccy
The blue pipes are the new vacuum kit with brass connections as turbo is running 18 psi at moment and the factory ones tend to blow apart over 15 psi :?

Andy,
Thanks for the reply. It looks a brilliant job.
Rav and I might have to organise a wiltshire to somerset trip to come and see it!
Most of those changes are exactly what I'm after, a trip in it might tip the balance!

Definately, I've been meaning to catch up with Rav for ages. It is his old car after all so it's only right I should reacquaint them :)

I'll see if I can book some time out one weekend soon :thumbleft:

Andy

Glad your enjoying it Andy.

55lbs injectors. Its worth remembering that most modern cars run sequential injection, the 944 turbo runs batch injection, so all 4 injectors fire at the same time, even if its in a phase where the intake valve for a particular valve is closed. This means that whereas 55lbs injectors in a car with sequential injection may only provide enough fuel for a lower power level, in a batch firing car you can almost multiply that capacity by a factor of 4 (slightly less in reality)

From experience with either the 9xx chipset or custom mapping, the 55lbs injectors we use are good for around 380 BHP.. beyond that you need to use 72lbs items.

Not all 55lbs injectors are created equal. Our ones are tested as a matched set to really flow 55lbs of fuel, whereas some of the 55lbs injectors advertised on the internet and elsewhere actually flow between 45lbs and 52lbs and actually turn up scratched and obviously not new items.

I would be tempted to predict Andy's car will be running at about 320 to 330 BHP and 365-380 lbs of torque, which is what we typically gain from this package of parts (dyno charts available on request!)

Sounds like a plan Gordon!

Oh no... when you get to 996 posts, duck, something is likely to come flying out of the screen at you, at 997 things should be better, but it may be too soon to know for sure :)

After Mark you and I working through the night to fix/rebuild THAT SC, you better not get rid of it!

Anyway, we have hijacked Andy's post!

Sorry Andy!

Why is there a cone filter almost right on top of the radiator? I thought that was the worst type of place for an air intake due to all the hot air in the engine bay and heat soak from the engine itself?

Thats not the radiator, it's the intercooler, nice and cold there. The radiator is down below in the front valance area :D

Ideal location for the cone filter is behind the near side headlight, but with the standard airflow meter an induction kit needs to be fitted in place of the standard air filter box.

Replacement of the airfilter box, even at that location improves performance and reduces lag due to less restriction being placed on the airflow to the turbo.

Once the car is moving, even in traffic the temperature in that area remains not very much higher than ambient.

The only time it gets warm is if the car is not moving for a prelonged amount of time.

A bigger problem with the Porsche design is the aluminium (good at absorbing heat) is located right above the turbo within a few mm. When comming to a stop after a hard boost run this radiates much more heat into the intake charge than the cone filter ever can.

We are working on a heat shield at the moment to reflect this heat away from the intake manifold.
