Run away and hide?
After my initial reply I've already changed my name and got the house on the market :blackeye: :D :D

Given these 911 owners I'd ask for a full Police witness protection for you & all your family to be honest :mrgreen:

I did consider a 964 before I bought the 944. The one I drove nearly killed me though. OK I was driving "enthusiastically" and I think the rear suspension needed setting up, but it was enough to make me think that with my distinctly average driving ability and heavy right foot I'd be best off with a 944.

LOL wish I had not said anything now!

All I meant was that I personally prefer to drive the 944 at the moment! I love the 911 and its never bitten me even at the Nurburgring, once you understand what its doing its fantastic fun to drive fast. Thinking about it the 944 is easier to drive at 90% and in that respect is more fun as I tend to do it more often.

They are both great cars for different reasons!

Used to have an old Skoda Estelle. Lots of fun in the snow. Reminds me a lot of a 911. The back end wants to pass the front all the time :lol:
Engine sounds a bit similar too Siggy :lol: :lol:

Now, this is the 944 forum so...

The 911 is an iconic car, sounds great, has a distinctive shape (some love it, some hate it...) and is a masterpiece of engineering evoluition, however...

{*** cue controversy ***}

I've driven both and the 944 outhandles the 911. Full stop. People try to dress it up in such terms as challenging, of separating men from boys, etc... However, if it wasn't a 911, it would be slated as having pig-awful handling. Everyone strives for 50-50 wt dist but, because it's the wrong Porsche, it's then written off as too easy to drive!! How many other cars have been made in the same config apart from the Imp, Beetle, and an obscure Simca? There, I've said it...

{*** end of controversy}

NSU, Fiat Abarth, Matra, Auto Union, Just cr?p cars like that, probably why 924's, 944's have had such an illustrious rallying carrear, compared to the 911 ?? just a little wildie, but could it be the driver ?? sure the 911 can be a bit challanging , but come on during the 944 heyday why did noone of any distinction , including Porsche do anything of note with it ?

I think Derek Bell & a few others may disagree the 924 Carrera GT was raced at Le Mans & also raced heavily in period in Europe.

http://www.924gt.com/

Most of the true Porsche race cars are mid engined 908, 917, 935 etc. although silhouette of the generic squas...911 shape

Someone more knowledgeable than me, please confirm: didn't the Turbo S cars have a weight penalty imposed in the Porsche races because the wrong cars were winning?

This vid makes good viewing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vExPd7IlCbc, and this one shows a Porsche which really had potential: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wj5ohIZyohw!

Also worth a read: http://www.ddurrelltech.com/pcar/exl/Ex ... _600HP.pdf

924 Carrera GT JIm, yep he did race one a bit, but that car was built as a race car and the road versions sold were for homologation purposes only I beleive, so thats 500 cars I think, not really representative compared with racing 911's, but anyway we were really speaking front versus rear I thought, if we are going down the race road I think there would be no discussion ?

Starboard,that happened in the Porsche Cup around 2005, those cheap 4 cylinder things were beating 996 racers and the like so Porsche stepped in and but a few obstacles in their way, possibly weight penalty ?
