Sorry to hear that. Really C**p. Hope your insurance is good as your going to have a battle & if they do the fighting for you. Your life will be easier. All the best getting it sorted out. Too many uninsured drivers out there now. The rest of us pay double to cover it.

Insurance just picked her up on a lorry. I have a sinking feeling I wont see her again. Real shame. I did all the work on her, lot of my blood ,sweat and tears got it to where it was. not to mention a fair chunk of cash.

You don't have to have it written off. My car was damaged by two bulls. The car cost me £4850 in November 2005. In July 2006 the insurance paid an official Porsche repair centre £4500 to repair it. I am fully comp with protected no-claims discount so I just claimed off my own insurance, and made sure that I was on to them regularly to get the claim back from the farmer's insurance. The farmer's insurance re-paid everything, including my excess, back to my insurance company.

Every time you speak to somebody at the insurance company, write down the time and date, their name, and what was said. Keep on top of them and it should be OK.

Hi BEN :)

I agree with the above...

Plus...

If they decide to write it off, first you do NOT have to agree, and second you MUST tell them that if they do you want to buy the remains back from them....

All the best Brett :)

Good advice from Brett and John, far too many good cars are written off because of expensive repair costs and low values.

You also need to keep in mind that if you decide to sell it later down the line, being Cat D will effect it's value.

If you need any help with values, please give me a call.

Being a cab it should still be worth a fair bit. Values are on the up again at last due to a shortage of second hand cars. So make sure they give you a good offer! A cab is harder to replace if the damage is beyond sensible repair. You can choose your own bodyshop to fix it as well! So find one with a good panel beater who can work on classic cars.

The bodyshop have quoted 4k to sort it, Im not sure if that includes the damage to the steering though. I'm waiting on the assessors report now.

4K should include 4 wheel alignment. Sounds reasonable. Choose your bodyshop carefully! :D

Ben its up to you. But.... The car was taken to your insurances authorised body shop. They rang porsche for a new rear wing as there more used to fixing Nissen micras & like bolt on new bits. Porsche said "Sorry guv. They don't make em any more!" Instant write off.
Well maybe not but If it were mine I would get a second opinion from somewhere that knows how to fix classic cars. I had my rear wing & drivers door fixed after my boss revearsed into it!!!! The insurance would have written it off. My man fixed it for less than £500
Good luck whatever you decide :)

Phone Posche and ask them where their local body shop is, take it there and see what they say. I had mine done at Lloyds Autobody near Manchester Airport. The insurance assessor met me there and agreed to use the reason that they are Porsche specialists to get the job done there rather than at the 'approved repairer'.

Your insurance company might want to write it off, but at the end of the day it's not their money as the other party's insurers are paying.

Hi :)

Yes , Jesty is the Porsche approved body shop in Bournemouth but....

I popped in there once to look at a friends 996 that was being repaired and when i asked how much (rear end bump)....they said around 12 to 13 GRAND !

When I said WOW thats a lot , they said....just about every Porsche that comes in here is EXACTLY that price as its on the Insurance :(

So be careful there Ben if you use them....

All the best Brett :)

I may pass her on to someone else to fix up if they offer me a good buy back price. I'm feeling a bit emotional about it, after all the time and effort i put into her and I dont know if i could deal with fixing her up again.
