I'm always careful of flood water although, to be honest, I wouldn't drive the car through such water levels, that would be above bumper height....

cheers

Thanks for the pics Pete. Have you always run the filter there since you've used the Vitesse MAF setup ?

No... in the last setup that I had running for some years I had a large cone filter fitted in the centre of the engine bay, between rad and engine, more or less where the old AFM used to be.. back then she ran 368bhp/382torque. That was with the first Vitesse MAF unit, today I have the Vitesse V-MAF+ and she has a bit more now....:)

it's been there too... actually thinking about it, the filter was in the middle before the first MAF was fitted, behind headlight after MAF, sorry my mistake... memory isn't as good as it once was....

No problem Pete, my memory can be a bit slow when I'm tired occasionally. Do you think you'll fit the bigger injectors ?

I will do one day if for no other reason than the chip has maps written on it that should make for a very interesting first drive once switched on..:) I took the old girl out for a drive yesterday, the sun came out which always makes my right foot a little heavier....she certainly flies when asked too and would you believe I still haven't gone anywhere near full throttle, think the highest is just over 80% and that's only been once or twice..she is a bit of an animal.....:)

My 924 does not sound too bad I think :)
I'm in love with the aircooled flat 6 noise, I'm not in love with the 4 pot sound...but like I said..it actually sounds pretty damn good.

There's nothing wrong with the sound of an inline-4, it's just that it's so common on cars in the UK. And, while there is a difference between an 8v and a 16v I-4 the difference isn't that great compared to the difference between any I-4 and a flat-6, for instance.

I don't particularly like or dislike the sound of my S2 but do sometimes wish it had the more distinctive engine note of a flat-6 or a flat-crank V8, for instance.

I see on the last Top Gear they fell in to the trap of repeating the cliche that the 718 Cayman isn't as good because the engine doesn't sound like the old one. It might be my telly or my ears but the difference really didn't come across to me.

And yesterday a 3.0l Alfa GTV left the petrol station I was at with some revs. Maybe the car was not running well but I really didn't think it sounded that great. I must be biased but I'm sure my '44 sounds better.

Edit

Btw I've not got anything against 6 cylinder cars, only the idea that all 6 cylinder engines sound better than all 4 cylinder engines. I agree that a lot of it probably comes down to how common they are but, considering how successful it is, we should have more love for the humble 4 pot. Especially when it's as good as it is in the 944.

Does the V6 out of twin exhausts on my Mercedes sound more tuneful than the 944s, oh yes. Do I dislike the noises the 4 pots in the 944s make, not at all. They're "different" and more "purposeful" than the V6. The V6 "wails" when pushed, the inline 4s "bellow". Both are nice noises.

Out of the two 944s, I prefer the sound of the 3.0 16v to the 2.7 8v. The 3 litre sounds really good above 4,000 rpm with an excellent "rasp" nearing the red line. The 2.7 just gets "loud".
