The ECU is in the passenger footwell, lift the carpet back and remove the plank of wood and you should see it.

Hi David -

Your woes continue! Spark plugs should last many miles but a few of yours haven't...

I am still erring on the side of a duff injector - if one is injecting more fuel than the required amount, it will certainly do damage to that corresponding plug cell, causing a misfire and subsequent damage to the plug.

When getting a decent set of spark plugs, just open the box and fit them - gapping is not necessary - just fit and play.

Another option is to get the cam belt checked and it's appropriate timing...

If that helps -

Hi Dave, Thanks for your reply. I took the plugs out again and this time found number 2 had burnt away almost, they are NGK's and have been in there since feb this year and I have done 5000 miles and had an overheating problem, for some strange reason the gaps on the plugs where far too big, so this time I got Bosh plugs which were gapped correctly, put them in and it runs like a dream again, it now also has new lead, dizzy and rotor and a new coil. Another key factor may have been that since I have had the car and none of the garages I've been to mentioned it that the air mass was upside down, my bin man mech friend pointed it out to me when helping me with the plugs, so that is the correct way also now and we cleaned out the throttle body too.

It's great to drive again now and gildes along pining for the pedal to go down and the exhaust to deliver deep notes that make you smile that you realise what's it's all about!

they might have been NGK copies off the Bay of E, they are complete crap.

Bosch are cheaper and they work just fine, thats what the factory fitted so they cant be that bad

Hi Guys, slow in replying I know, sorry for that anyway I changed the plugs as number 2 was Burt away almost, so they where in for just over a week and crept back so I changed them again as Tue same plug did the same, now I put in Bosch Super 4 quads and it been like dream for over a week but this morning it started on 3 again until I revved it, I did notice injector one had a slight leak at the seal so have order a seal kit with the filters for all of them and will be changing them on Monday.

But as from as my plug goes does anyone know what would be causing that please?

Also my car heater has stop working the blower works fine but now it gives me no heat anymore, the cars temp is fine, does anyone know what I should look and for that problem please?

P.s. I would be grateful if someone could give me a guide or tell me what relays do what as I could find the answer on YouTube or my Haynes manual.

Can't help on the plug front, but for the heater there is a valve at the back of the engine that controls coolant flow to the HVAC radiator, it's controlled by a bowden cable from the slider in the cabin.
First check would be that the valve moves with the slider. If it doesn't but the slider still moves, check that both the inner and outer of the cable are attached at both ends. The engine bay end is easy, the cabin end requires a bit of dash dismantling, radio out helps, and is mighty fiddly. If the slider doesn't move, the valve has been known to seize... Disconnect the bowden from the valve side and move it by hand, should be very very easy to move.

It seems to point to an air leak to those cylinders, making them run weak and very hot

Injector seals maybe the solution to your problem, but I would take the injectors off still installed in the inlet manifold, the reason for this is that if the seals are that degraded when you try to pull the injectors out the tips might come off and vanish into a cylinder.

If that happens a whole new world of pain starts

Can anyone tell me what the idle revs should be please on my car, 1983 2.5 8v as from when I got it it was idling at 1000 but now its dropped to 900 until I drove it hard and then it goes back to 1000.
I've had it in to the garage and they have fitted an auxiliary air valve as they said it was broke inside and that it should idle at around 900 but I'm not convinced they also did the inlet gaskets and changed my oil.
Thanks

The Porsche Workshop Manual says (for European pre-85/2 models) 800rpm or 850rpm if you have power steering or automatic transmission.

Thanks for a quick reply, will that mean all manual steering should idle at the same then?

The manual says:

early manual cars without power steering: 800rpm
early automatic cars or manual cars with power steering: 850rpm
later 2.5l cars: 840 +/- 20rpm
2.7l cars: 840 +/- 40rpm

So anywhere around 800-850rpm is "good".

It'll be more heart breaking after he has his first dink in it. You might want to consider getting him a half decent running driving 924 for when he passes his test, if he keeps that straight for 2yrs hand over the shiny one then.

He won't be having his first dink in it unless its a non fault because he know if it's his fault he need not bother coming back............ plus I'm not going through all of this with a 924!

:)

I crashed 4 cars within the 1st 18 months. Not had an accident since. Very brave to give a 17 year old a nice car like that.
