That is ridiculous for a 205 GTI, i'm assuming it was a 1.9 in immaculate condition that hadn't turned its wheels in years with 30k miles or less?

I wouldn't give a 205 or 5 turbo space on the drive back in the day, or now.

Depends on your outlook.

Even 10 years ago I don't think truly immaculate 205s existed. Pretty much every one I have seen had cracked at the top of the B-Pillar (this is normal on any 205 out there), some interior trim had broken due to the quality of the plastics and almost all of them had knackered seats in one way or another. In fact I was very surprised with how the colth interior of my 173k example had worn ; it looked better most other cars out there, including the low milers.

I saw the Silverstone car in the flesh. It is like a brand new example. Seats were crack free and looked like brand new, the shell had none of the stress cracks that all 205s suffer from and it looked factory fresh.

It is not my cup of tea as I like to have cars to drive, hence why my M3 is not in the best of condition, but presentable and sound, but some people do want perfection in terms of condition. Even the paint didn't look 'detailed' and super shiny like alot of restos out there.

The condition part is one of the reasons for why I sold my RST ; It is great having a car in great condition but the moment you start looking at the weather, worried about where it is park (in terms of it getting stolen!), it just takes the enjoyment out of the process for me.

The fact is most people like a 205 due to the way it captured people's imagination as well as it being a game changer in the hot hatch world ; it was a car that was truly fun to drive, and not just fast ; I would say the Clio 172/182 is about the only "Modern" car that truly has the essence of the 205 but the world has moved on.

Unfortunately to quite a few people the 944 is still a 'poor man's Porsche', and 'not a 911', and yes I am talking about the general public, not car enthusiasts. I even remember a mechanic from a very well known Porsche specialist from Banbury way commenting on 944s were not all that and that "a strange bunch of people tried to make an unreliable car work, despite it not being possible". I may have told him I had a 944 Turbo a few moments later :D .

Put it this way. At car shows I got FAR more attention in my Escort RST than I did even with the Stag, MGBs and both 944s

I spotted this online just yesterday. A 944 Turbo advertised at £42k.

Which is nuts really. I've said before I had an 86 RST back in 89 and I never really gelled with it. Sure with the Turbo Technics 160 bhp uprate it ate up 205 GTI's and 5GT Turbo's, but I've never had any interest in having another one. Had a few Stags years ago too and a rot free manual would be a nice summer cruiser today.

I run both a 205 and a S2 -
the 205 feels and drives like it should be a 2/3 grand car
the S2 feels and drives like it should be a 8/10 grand car
The S2 will eat the 205 in all driving conditions
but they are similar in value - HOW ?
