Thats surprising! The company I work for now has just got some M.A.N. 460hp artic units with ZFastronic autoboxes and cc and on the motorways we can easily get 11mpg sometimes 12 which is twice as much as some of the older vehicles were getting say ten years ago!Flat out they are only doing about 1100 or 1200rpm,but its the hills that spoil the consumption figures. On non motorway journeys on hilly roads you cant get anywhere near those figures. Revs cost money!!

It depends how aggressively the CC accelerates I expect. My BMW (and to an extent my Mini, though being manual it's less obvious) took off like a scalded cat if I pressed resume at much under the set speed.

The Jag isn't THAT aggressive but it can catch you out especially if the driver in front doesn't move quite as quickly as you thought he would. I must admit it all feels quite weird on manual car, I had a Jag X-Type on loan & it all felt strange.

On a manual I'd say you lose 25% of the benefit as you have to select the gear you want to use to cruise before you turn it on and it won't drop a cog if you get on a steep hill that it can't pull in the gear you have been using on the flat.

It's not a deal-breaker for me when buying a car, but for sure I'd rather have it than not have it, sportscar or not. If you drive the car on the road then IMO it's useful, end of story. Similarly useful but not essential is the warning gong that can be set to trigger at a set speed that my BMW and Mini have. I have it set at 140kmh in the Mini as that's the speed over here that they take your license away and leave you at the roadside unable to drive your car home, so it's worth consciously deciding to exceed that speed rather than doing it inadvertently, especially as Police cars have forward facing radar that can clock you as they travel in the opposite direction

on the pug there is a speed limiter which i find more useful than the cruise in speed camera areas
