Thanks for the comments guys,

Brakes are being bled and new fluid is going in - new pads are on order which will help in conjunction with the new fluid. There are steel braided on the fronts currently but yes they could do with begin replaced with newer items.

I don't believe i was riding the brake i'm not a track novice and have done track days in my VX220 and other cars and i believe i am fairly competent on track :) (contrary to the video i posted  :)) The brake pedal being long was due simply to fluid going off i believe but as most of her time is to be spent on track i felt it wise to upgrade the brake pads to better items (currently looking at Carbotech which get fantastic reviews)

Suspension is on the list but the track season is over now (up here at least) so thought i'd start stockpiling some items to work on her over winter - i can get toyos for £70 a corner inc VAT and delivery so thought id get them at that price while i can :)

Thanks for all the help so far guys, keep it coming! :thumbleft:

Dont misunderstand me when I say 'riding'; by that I mean braking for too long and not hard enough. In order to obtain more feel (and more effort), Id suggest fitting braided hoses to the rear of the car also.....

Thanks 944 man,

Hoses on the rear definitely need to be fitted and new ones to the front at the same time, i'd be silly not to.

Think it will be a fun winter working on her :)

I was going to fit Brembos (with GodSpeed adapters) onto my early 944, but Ive taken my own advice and bought a pair of new (original 930 type) ATE callipers instead. I wonder if I will have the sense to take my advice on pads and buy Pagid? So long as I dont buy EBC.....

For a track car I'd suggest you could go a bit more extreme with PF or Porterfield.

Can anyone tell me the correct tyre size for an 83 944 - the car currently has 215/60/15 - i think it might be a bit over tyred, if anyone could tell me the 'official' tyre size just to clear things up it would be much appreciated.

Standard tyres in 82 were 215/60/15. According to the sales brochure, these were the newest in 'low profile tyres'
I think you can upgrade to 16 inch wheels but the offset has to be correct.

Hope that helps

Cool, thanks 8)

Have managed to find some yokos at 195/50/15 for much cheapness, profile is not much of a concern, but the width was.

I guess rolling radius will be smaller so the speedo will be a little off too if i go ahead with the 195/50's.

If you use this tyre calculation website you'll see that 195/50/15 are 10% smaller diameter than 215/60/50 so you're speedo will read 10% higher than now:

On the (almost always over looked) plus side: be decreasing the rolling radius youre increasing the brakes effort and getting a cheap brke upgrade.

Of course the inverse is true where you increase the rolling radius and decrease the brakes effective effort.

As an aside: the standard tyres in 1982 were definately 185/70/15s. Fortunately they were increased to 215/60s relatively quickly.
