I still have this annoying problem so I have got all the bits to replace the coil, HT leads, distributer, and rotor arm. The plugs are less than a year old so I'm not replacing them.

Anything I should be aware of replacing the distributor and rotor arm? Does the rotor arm have to be put on at exactly the same rotation or is it impossible to install wrong?

Obviously I need to make sure the HT leads are running to the same points and cylinder.

I have also obtained a new distributer gasket. This is missing from my car which is likely to be the cause of poor starting in damp weather after non use.

Thanks

I personally would not replace the coil but replacing the other parts is not a bad shout. IME alot of the pattern coils are only really fit for the bin unless you for a genuine Porsche or Bosch item (but they are ££££ ; I created problems on a car by changing the coil ; that kept me guessing the true fault for quite some time).

I'd say the same for the leads and arm too ; the BERU leads are head and shoulders about most leads I have fitted ; I only wish you could get them for the Escort as opposed to the Wanknecors (sorry, Magnecors) on it. I'd see how tarnished your items are however. My old 951 used to randomly lose power very occasionally and then barely idle with a lack of vacuum being present. I never figured out what the issue was, but the AFM and FPR were suggested as culprits.

I do hope you do cure the issue. Do you have access to a good used AFM, or did you change this?

No problem. I've got a Bosch coil and Bosch distributer and rotor and Beru HT leads. Also got a Porsche OEM distributer gasket. Don't believe in puting lesser spec parts on a Porsche. It'll only degrade it.

Well new coil, HT leads, distributor cap and rotor arm fitted and,.....it still stutters!

It runs better with all the new kit. Seems more aggressive in its response. But sadly not solved the problem.

Still the old distributer seal was cream crackered so the new seal will at least help the damp start problem.

This damn blip/stutter at low revs/idle when warmed up is annoying me now. The car runs fantastic and this is really spoiling the experience.

I may have to bite the bullet and get a Porsche specialist to look at it. Loath to do this after spending for my garage to not solve the problem.

My stutter problem is solved. I got the intake manifold gaskets replaced and the idle control valve cleaned.

I also got my idle corrected properly using the bypass technique.

Matt at Porschacare knows his stuff.

Happy days

Glad you got it sorted. What is the bypass technique you mention?
