DarrylH - i hillclimb and sprint my 220 turbo in northern ireland and was wondering about gear ratios as it is very long so you have just given me something to consider with an S2 gearbox swap..........
any particular year ? Would you know gearbox model/part number ? so i know what to keep my eye out for

How about trying a wheel/tyre combo with a smaller rolling radius? Easier than swapping out the transaxle and easy to change from one to another.

That is exactly what I used to do when I Sprinted my TR5 at Goodwood and Gurston a while back.
Standard tyres were 160 80! 15 and to compete I fitted (on a set of seperate rims) 195 60 15 and it was worth 3 sec at Goodwood where the car would do a standing start 1 min 49 sec and pull out of the corners much better.
It also lowers the car which helps too.

Iam rolling on 16inch teledials with a smaller overall diameter tyre 205/45 on the front and 225/45 rears which has helped.
in sprinting and hill climbing any slight improvment is welcome to get seconds off
i take it 86 turbo early offset car cant run 15 inch wheels.......due to brembos

maybe we should start another thread. Ooops accidently hijacked this one.
