Still not had chance to have a look, so I have not been using the 944 - but I was flicking through my history record tonight, and as I said, the LH mount was replaced by RGA Porsche in Dec 2013, 3000 miles ago - but also, the RH mount was replaced by Hartech in March 2007, 10,000 miles ago.

So it will be interesting to see if either have failed prematurely!!

Solid mounts should only be used in the 924S, even in that environment they don't tend to last very well. For the turbo and all the other models of 944 and 968 they should be hydraulic.

968 mounts are different to 944 mounts, or at least Porsche used to list different parts for them, but I have a feeling that Porsche may have combined them recently, as they have been doing a lot of that in the last couple of years.

Essentially, there used to be 3 types of mounts for the 2.5 to 3.0 4 cylinder engines.. 924S, 944 and 968, but over the years there has been much messing about with part numbers.

Every single one I have seen from the usual sources are the solid mounts for the 924S but sold as fitting other models.

A big reason why we do not install customer supplied parts, as complained about in a recent thread here, its a minefield for us and our liability sourcing and installing parts, but even worse when a customer suppies them. Show a Porsche technician the 3 types of mounts and he will not be able to tell the difference, and that does include me, but putting in the time to source and double check the parts are right allow us to not only be sure what is installed is right, but also that it will fit and not completely make a mess of our schedule.

And for one second, I would not plame RGA or Hartech for being caught out by the supply chain of UK distributors and wholesalers/factors and having installed a solid mount by accident, which if that is the case, it could well be screwed by now!

When I fitted the Meyle mounts to my S I felt that the perceived quality seemed OK, but after Waylanders comments of them failing after a few years - that is enough to sway me to Porsche hydraulic mounts - that and there must be NVH benefits.

My initial thoughts were that aftermarket mounts may have been fitted as neither invoice give part numbers - the RGA mount was approx £100 plus vat back in 2013 (which seems about right) and the Hartech one was £250 fitted.

Hopefully next weekend will be snow free so I can investigate further, but from memory the oe mounts have Porsche part numbers embossed on them?

Saying that, RGA note in an invoice that the bolts had to be replaced on the RH mount - so maybe Hartech fitted the incorrect, longer bolts which punctured the mount.

I love sifting through history files!!
