I'll go along with that theory too, either it was a faulty belt or incorrectly tensioned , due to the fact that the water pump , rollers , tensioners, Belts, sleeves etc were all brand new . Before I had all the work done, when the engine was cold I used to hear the "whiring" sound you got from the belts, now depending who you spoke to some said this was normal , others said it was not, but when I got all the new belts on that sound disappeared so I thought that the. " whiring " sound maybe wasn't normal , however since getting the car back this week the " whiring " sound has returned, so maybe the belt wasn't correctly tensioned which led to belt failure after all. ?
