The standard fitting for a 944 was 15 inch x 7 inch 23ET cookie cutters. Fuchs wheels were an option and there are various types listed in the parts catalogue including 16 x 8 23ET and 15 x 8 10.6 ET..
There's no 6 inch wheels listed so they would be smaller than standard fitting. Would there not be a risk of under steer if you where tracking it. I'm no expert but less rubber on the front end I would have thought meant less grip.
Well I'm running 195s on the Cookies right now and those are 7J, I can probably get the correct 205/55r16 on a 6J Fuchs and I can't see that providing less grip. The rears are likely to be 225/50r16 on the 7J rims.
I'm less concerned about any dynamic shortfall, as I don't thing there'll be one, what I am more worried about is physical interference and/or looking wonky.
I slid sideways at 80mph the other night after trying to chase Broady down, neither front end or back end were prepared to give up until I bottled it and took my foot out, and the even balance and even grip led to a pretty balanced slide in spite of my cack-handed cowardice. A bit of toe-ballet sorted things out, but I did think to myself that Broady's 215/60r15s might have afforded him a bit more grip at the same speed and that with the reduced sidewall jiving and increased rubber footprint from the 205/215 combo on 16s I might have had the confidence to keep my foot in, and clung on.
Anyway, in short... I didn't crash with humble 195s and so I can't see that understeer at real-world real-corner speeds is going to be an issue that presents itself often, and if it does... it'll be just one of the problems requiring corrective input and my best Juha Kankkunen moves.
