Oh yes, you will also want the 4 spark plug hole seals and perhaps the two O rings that seal the two black plastic caps on the valve cover as they can leak a little as the O rings get hard...best to do while you have the cover off.

And when the cover is off, before you remove anything else, make sure all the oil gallery feed holes are plugged well with pieces of clean cloth to prevent small 'stuff' dropping down! Then, when actually working on the chain tensioner, place another piece of cloth under it (as best as possible) to catch the washers, etc. when you take them off.

Thanks mate. Got all that. Let's hope I make a better job of this than I did with the clock eh?

Cheers,
Bryan

Does anyone have an opinion on the pros and cons of using Loctite when putting it all back together?

Cheers,
Bryan

Could really do with some advice on whether or not to use Loctite. This is the first time I've attempted anything like this, so would appreciate the benefit of the group's experience. Very keen to get it right first time!

Bought myself a torque wrench and all the replacement parts, so ready to go.

Cheers,
Bryan

There's a detailed write up here for the chain tensioner, they suggest you do use loctite.

Hi Matey, I couldn't get the link to go anywhere apart from the reply window?

Hi Briggy, I recall using Loctite on the cam sprocket bolt and the tensioner fixing bolts too. Don't think I used it anywhere else though. However, a drop of Loctite 574 is recommended to seal the bearing bridges and its blanking seals at both ends of the cam cover, but I recall using some high temp RTV (as I had it!), and I have no leaks.

** Of course the above only really applies if you take out the cams to replace the chain - if you are doing just the slipper pads, I don't think you need any Loctite at all **

Thanks, a good and useful link. However, the photos do not really show the rags needed for the oil galleries, just the spark plug holes...but he does mention them in the write-up. Good photos too!! :D

Only doing the slippers, so no Loctite then. That'll do me. Thanks guys.

By the way, I've got the cover off and can see that the slippers are brown and deeply scored, so definitely worth doing.

Cheers,
Bryan
