RAC euro cover is only 110£ a week.

That seems a bit pricey! ADAC cost me about 90 euros for the year for us both to have full cover.

is there any objection to taking a non porsche vehicle ? If this lexus makes it to cannes and back, I may sort out the handling and keep it for future use...

I think Jon's purpose is to supply spares as all the cars will be identical. Plus it makes performance fair!

I know Jon has had this idea for some time. It isnt something half baked he really has thought it through. The single model idea allows for spares to be carried in abundance and you have cars which are the easiest porsche to fix. Always thought it was a cracking idea and i hope he gets a big take up. In reality the 924 you will have at the end will probably be worth more than it cost!!!

Ideally this is aimed at people staying with it, rather than doing one run and then disposing of the car. The idea being that eventually everyone will get to realise how reliable the cars are, get used to them and their issues without panic.

Probably initially the runs/adventures will be small confidence building ones, perhaps a trackday or track evening or two to get used to the cars and find their limits.

Costs would be low, my full support would be offered, mods would be allowed (as no 924 non turbo mods really make them any faster to ruin the pack with elitism) and the mods that most people would want are cheap or free, such as deleting non essential equipment such as the rear seat, possibly fitting bigger brakes (very cheap if you know how) etc..

The car people end up with would be very capable as a normal trackday toy, but would seem slow on a trackday mostly populated with supercars, but perfectly fun on your average trackday.

I have a lot of Porsche which would be really capable on a trackday, even a supercar or Porsche only trackday, but to be honest, as a rule I am a bit precious about them to really enjoy a trackday, and I think some other people here may feel the same way.

With the adventure element, the idea is to do some trips over seas, which can be peoples get away from "her indoors", where there would be a few each year over into europe where members of the group would be able to pick and choose which ones they can do... likewise everyone gets to choose what events are even arranged.

As Gordon said, this is something which has been knocking around as an idea for a few years now, but it is also something which needs things ironed out.

Some people who have expressed an interest in the past have mentioned they want it to be a lads only thing, so it is an opportunity for people to get away and let their hair down away from their other half.. However some other people have said their wife would love the idea of coming along... So either there would need this deciding on, or there would need to be events which are either just the lads, or for lads and partners.

Another curious thing is some people mentioned that they would want it to be typical "TopGear" where people are allowed to bump at very slow speeds (like sub 3mph) such as when parking.. But it is clear that others might not like this.. I can see that the "TopGear" way might be fun, on the other hand others might want to slowly restore their 924 as another project on the side, so this would be out of order.

So, as you can see, its not a complete plan, but part of the point of this thread is to see what people might be interested in.

It isnt a club, just a group of likeminded people looking for a bit of fun.

I always thought a boys only would be best, allows you to add in a bit of camping if you want and some general arsery for the hell of it. Of course you arent limited to one trip a year! I wasnt suggesting the cars should be sold, just saying that prepping and using gor something like this would most likley lead to a well sorted 924. If i could do this I def would and I have me own tent etc!!!!

Some ladies love this sort of thing.

The reason that the Top Gear guys are always damaging each other's cars, is because they obviously only have the car for a very short time, and it is completely disposable once the adventure is finished. That doesn't really apply to us, as we don't want to destroy a fleet of 924's, they're just cheap enough such that accidental damage shouldn't be too concerning.

I definitely do not have the space to keep a 3rd vehicle long term, so I really would buy one, and sell it after the trip.

You definitely need breakdown cover to send the cars back home should the inevitable happen.

You can get full euro breakdown cover in with your classic insurance. On a 924 I would be surprised if you paid more than £150.

I ain't camping though :)

This might be useful to people in general, no affiliation with them at all and obviously people must make their own decisions however this might address one complaint that ADAC can be a bit tricky to set up.

When I renewed my ADAC cover for this year I simply called 00492214727444 and paid over phone by Credit Card to a nice lady who spoke perfect English to me!

Easy as pie :)

I hope so. I don't know what I'm going to do with a 924 otherwise!
I think Jon is back to good health now as well.

Wonderful idea Jon.
I sold my Dolomite Sprint to an American who used it on Club Triumph's 10 countries run in which any Triumph does 10 european countries in 4 days.
My avatar shows my hat and shirt given as gifts by the USA team who came over here just to do that tour in a variety of Triumphs. I helped them in their mission as best I could, they used a 1965 2000, 1968 2000 estate, 1970 1300 FWD and of course my 1976 Sprint (now living in Ohio) I checked every nut and bolt and made sure everything was as good as it could be because I have track dayed that car since 1997 and covered literally thousands of track miles.
All the cars made it with a little care and they drove all through the Alps.
I did this in 1979 in a TR4 and got as far as Venice and back of course.
A 924 is an first class choice with its tough engine etc and cheap too.
