I think TBH the aerial will be the least of your problems. When I bought mine top of the list was fix the sunroof. Still havn't got there 18 mths on. Close now. Very close.

It's by no means a high priority. My highest priority at the moment is to stop water getting into my Passat so I can get it out of the garage to make way for the 944 ;)

Next step is to get the engine running again and then get the brakes suspension and steering up to scratch then get it back on the road. I'm just a bit of a perfectionist and the Aerial annoys me

You lucky lucky man, well done.

The extra key hole may be for an alarm. My 84 Lux had one fitted to the rear panel just behind the passenger door. I think it was an origional Porsche alarm and was basically a horrn that sounded if the doors opened without disarming the alarm via the key.

It has an aftermarket system as I discovered when poking around under the bonnet and has a keyfob which I assume is linked up to some form of central locking but I can't really tell as the battery wasn't in the car. It was cleverly taken out to stop any acid corroding through the metal :)

shouldn't the aerial be on the drivers side ? by the way nice find and i agree with others re belts, brakes and other rubbers, the lock on the door looks like a deadlock which was popular in the eighties, hope it all goes well and enjoy

On the passenger door (not sure about the drivers side) there is a small lock underneath the door handle, you can see it on the picture from the rear (sorry about the blurryness). Any ideas what it is?

Its a dead lock an additional door lock

1982's have the aerial on the passenger side and the windscreen wipers working right to left. Must be quite an early model as you have both!

Would make sense, I have no idea what year it is as it's wearing Irish plates. When I get the logbook through I'll have a look.

I have some more pics for you chaps to ogle. Certain parts of this car are a bit of a mess as you'll see but overall it doesn't seem to be anything serious.
Sorry about the lack of engine pics but the bonnet struts are dead so I was too busy holding the bonnet open to get any pics of what's under there.

You lucky bugger! Don't look bad from the pics. Interior is the reasonably popular black pinstripe so a spare seat should be available off of E Bay.

One thing I've been wondering is whether all 944s come with the black plastic flap behind the wheels or did a previous owner fit them because they got fed up with cleaning the wheels? Surely it can't aid brake cooling much?

Never seen them before, maybe that's why the Fuchs are in such good nick?

nothing a bit of TLC won't sort, the brake dust covers were a common 80's thing to protect alloy wheels, was always a bit dubious about the effect on brake cooling myself

Clean & wax the wheels & dump the covers. Ok if you like brake fade! Managed to melt a pair once. (Really) When brakes fade completely it's very scary.

That was the idea. I used autoglym wheel sealant on my other cars and it seems alright. Heard good stuff about other wheel waxes too.
