Lots of stuff on here about pulling the engine, I would have thought it depends why you want to take it out if its to change the clutch then easier to drop the transaxle and torque tube if its for another reason then ot can be lifted out the top/front or I believe if you drop the cross member it can be lowered out the bottom. I am not sure but you might get a clutch for an early 944 for less than you think or maybe a second hand one with a few miles at least to try it.

I am probably going to end up pulling the trans axle out and doing the clutch that way.

Does any one have a good second hand clutch they could sell me??

I've got a rubber centred one. 7.2mm (versus new 8mm) thick. The only reason I replaced it was I had a brand new spring centred one when I rebuilt my engine.

Time for a little update, after the car sitting up on stands on my drive for way too long without me having time to do anything to it I have finally done something to it.
This weekend I have removed the gearbox then tried to move torque tube back before realising I would have to drop torsion tube down a bit to do so.
Got up early before wife and kids on Sunday morning and managed to get bell housing off and found the clutch friction plate was as suspected fubard!
I have a good second hand friction plate thanks to hotblack944 but have now found the release bearing is rather noisey!!

Does anyone have a good one kicking around anywhere?
Any help gratefully received as this car has to be put back on the road on a very tight budget

Have you tried a couple of OPCs for the release bearing? Its always a mistake to overlook them. I need a rear lock grommet and 2x sun visor caps: £20 used off eBay, or £9 new from Porsche...

oday and they

Fair comment, it is always worth ringing the stealer first as quite a lot of the time they are cheaper than ebay and such like.
I rang opc today and they can get me one for 124 quid plus vat.
Found another place that supplies Sachs components and they can do one for about 83 quid.
hotblack944 has kindly offered me a spare he has so will probably go that route for now as the rest of the car is still a bit of an unknown and I cant afford to chuck to much money at it until I know its worth doing.
