Hi All

Took the suspension apart today and the damage seems to be:
1) Wishbone balljoint - the wishbone itself looked OK and its mounts secure and unmoved. A replacement wishbone and balljoint has been ordered.
2) Strut - the clamp joint on the bearing housing was bent by about 15 degrees. A pair of replacement struts ordered.
3) Steering tierod end balljoint looked a little overstretched so a replacement ordered too.

As far as i can visually tell, everything else looked ok and solid. The bushes too looked fine.

I had parked up very close against the kerb with my wheels out by maybe 5 degrees, which in hindsight might have saved the bodywork from being the first point of contact.

Sounds good so far, drop the new bits on and get the geo set up and all should be ok.

Hi Everyone
I reassembled the parts on the suspension this morning (wishbone, strut) - and all bar the tie rod end being the wrong size - everything went back together without a problem or obvious misalignment.
BUT - I then noticed in the cabin, the ignition housing has moved by about 1-2mm - so obviously some movement has been transmitted through to the column from the impact. I have not checked under the dash yet but have decided to sell as spares/repairs. The steering wheel turns fine and does not grind and wheels move without apparent problem. It may drive Ok when I have finished but does require careful inspection and having indulged in a replacement 944, I'm just gonna get it running again then leave it to the next owner. I placed an ad on pistonheads/retro rides - but am open to offers on it
Cheers
Ian

Hi Doc really sorry to hear about this. Only just seen your post. Co-incidentally I was just re-reading the thread from last february about your starting issues. How spooky is that !

Hope you get the car sorted and back on the road soon.

Thanks for the reply - yes the starting problem last year and those earth connections.
Drove car this morning just to a lock up - I need to see about adjusting the steering - otherwise it is a project/spares I fear
The upside (!) is I bought an S2 in the week - money I was hoping to save, but really missed the '44.
