The following is a list of stuff I shall be looking for in the future.

1. Lowering springs - maybe up to 50mm :bounce:
2. Strut brace
3. Wheel improvement - looking to remove the powder coating from the rim or lip of each wheel and finish it with a polished alloy. Will make a striking feature. 8)
4. Flared vented rear wings. I've seen this vid on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOBxCWBl ... detailpage and I love the rear wing improvement. Any ideas where I can get these from? :?
5. With the above fitted, I would like to fit wheel spacer to the rear only - maybe 40mm.
6. Side skirts.
7. Possibly a performance rear exhaust box?? :bigsmurf:
8. I would like to replace part of the interior with burgundy - currently black.
9. Front brake upgrade.

Works which need doing:

1. Driver's window not working.
2. Bonnet cable attachment and inner pivot lever broken.
3. Rear brake discs in poor condition.
4. Windscreen washer pump/tubes not that good.
5. Tachometer not working.
6. Power steering a bit strange.
7. Heater temp and blower works intermittently.

That's about it for now. Any advice welcome...
And apart from that - I am in lurv

Id save your money up for the very expensive sill repairs that your car requires. Most of your other plans are folly anyway, so itll not be a huge loss.

Hi Alfie,

Thats exactly how my sills looked before I found out that they were rotten. They didn't look to bad from the exterior but once up on a ramp, they were horrendous. The previous owner had them patched and basically they were corroding around the welded on patches. The sills were just crumbling with a gentle prod.

I've got to agree with the other members, you need to sort the sills first. I'd budget around £1200 per side professionally. It will be less if you can get mates rates or are handy with a welder yourself.

After the sills are sorted, go for your mods.

They rust from the inside out, usually if you see a bubble on the outside there will often be a very large patch on the inside of the sill.
Pull the door pillar vents out and see if you can get a camera phone inside to take a pic. Another test is to push the sills so they flex and if you can hear crunching then their pretty shot.

If its left too long it will need inner and outer sills, the sooner its looked at the less it will cost to sort out.
Dont be tempted to cover it up with skirts. Mine was so bad you couldnt open the drivers door when it was jacked up, the rust covered a very large area when I cut it open but had only bubbled up in a couple of places. I hope yours isn't as bad.

Best of luck

I don't want to be controversial here, but I think doing this has limited benefit. All you can see is the area beneath the pillar vent. The only way to be sure of the condition would be to feed an Endoscope or similar type of fibre light scope with camera into the door pillar vent. You could then feed the scope in to get a better picture of what is happening between the inner and outer sills along the full length of the car sills.

Long and short of it though is, what ever you can see on the outside is minimal to what is happening on the inside. My sills were shot so badly I decided to sell the car rather than get the work done. Its also worth mentioning, I pulled out the pillar vents and the sills looked ok in that area, even though the sills were rotten. :? So not a conclusive test in my opinion.

Incidentally, I fully disclosed this to the buyer who was looking for a bit of a project. Shame the people who sold me the car didn't extend the same courtesy (but we musn't talk about that bit...)

On the contrary, you can see along the whole length of the sill if you manage to align the camera properly:

I hope your good with a welder! Or else it could be cheaper to buy another 944 & start again. Seriously the price there going for now that isn't as daft as it sounds. :(

Hi Alfie,

Oh heck mate! I'm sorry to see that. Mine was worse if it makes you feel any better. At least you know what area to be spending you're money in now. Good news is it can be sorted out. It's probably one of the more expensive repairs you'll ever have done on the car. Good luck.

:( I'd say the most sensible thing to do would be to get another 944 BUT it's your choice and if you are particularly attached to the car get your car sorted.

Before you start doing other mods make your car structually sound then look at the other stuff thereafter. :)

Well my fellow stallions and dear fillie...

'Project Venus' is more like a loose scattering of devilish asteroids at the mo.

But hey, "It's life Jim - but not as we know it". :D

It will take a more than a herd of wilderbeest to drown this steel chariot :bounce:

I feel a beer coming on :smilebox:
