Wash, T cut and polish.

My red paintwork is faded and peeling around the edges from a cheap respray in the past but it looks much better after today's elbow grease.

I intend to sort out the paint work this summer the best I can without a full respray as I just don't have the funds.

So much more elbow grease, fine grit paper, cutting solution and touch up paint and rattle cans is going to be needed along with lots of patience to get this Porsche looking good again.

Technically yesterday...my 944S 'scraped' through the MOT on emissions, Similar tale to last year, C02 too high, fuel/air ratio incorrect at idle speeds. At anything else the ratio is fine, so that's why I didn't have fouled plugs, etc. But at 900/1000 RPM it was wrong. But the tester really wanted my car to pass (the feeling was mutual!), so he fiddled with the AFM adjustment until we got a 'sweet-spot' for a while and ran the test again. So, I have a ticket to drive for this year. Now, I might be wrong here, but the prime suspect in this issue surely has to be the AFM itself? I have a spare with less miles on it, so I think I will service and clean that up and swap them over and get it on the analyser again at some point soon. Any other likely suspects??.

I don't think I have any air leaks or vacuum leaks, but the throttle shaft o rings might need replacing..However, the mixture was too rich, so any unmetered air coming in there would surely make it leaner?

General comments on the car centred around how boring the test was! Everything has been replaced, serviced, cleaned, so nothing for them to get interested in.. However, I really need to get underneath to shine it all up again.

Rear tyre is fine for this year, so I will keep an eye on it and an advisory for a pin-hole in front wishbone ball-joint gator, basically well pleased.. :D :D :D

Could well be your ICV especially if it's fine on throttle. If it's gummed up it won't be flowing enough air hence being too rich at idle. I have this issue just now and unfortunately I have no idle mixture adjustment on my scivision MAF so can't do that. The ICV is also a bugger to remove so I attacked it with brake cleaner through the inlet hose and it has improved the situation although still idling a tad rich but not as bad as it was. Will need to remove it and clean it properly at some point but it's fine for the time being.

Thanks for that info Stuart - I will have a look at that component too. I also have a spare, so might just clean that up and check n fit! I know what a pain they are to get to..

Hi Folks -

Today I removed the metal heater pipe (runs along the side of the head) for a clean and paint. Found both ends to be a bit corroded and rusted. Obviously has never been removed if ever. Wire brushed, oxide primed and painted satin black, replaced with new clips, bled and then went to for a test drive! All fine and no leaks...

Campervan -

I had my master cylinder rebuilt by a clutch 'n brake specialist. Am sure others here can direct you to a good supplier...

Noticed a bubble on sidewall of a front conti today. That's a pair with 6mm tread up the spout! Luckily had a pair of Toyo T-1S in the shed with the inner edges worn a bit due to my negative camber! Anyway the inner edges became outer edges so we're good to go for a while till I get some new ones! Have also cured a high speed (60mph+) brake shudder, there was me thinking I'd warped yet more pagid discs whilst it turned out to be the bubbled out of balance tyre! Also glad I spotted it before it blew out! Actually good all round the more I think about it lol!

Cheers Andy,

this was just a quick refresh, I went to town on them with wet and dry paper this time last year to smooth out the creases. One of those jobs that anyone can do, cheap and so satisfying for the difference it makes.

Did you get this one working, or have you had to give up?

How's the blue (black) one?

It's all working but needs some rust removing so it's off to have that sorted, a new alarm and immobiliser fitted, and an MOT :D

Blue one is...well it's still there. Considering what to do with it next.

At least it should great with all of the issues resolved Rob.

You're not kidding about the Passats in your signature though! I must have had more faults with my B6 Passat than most other cars!

My newest non-Porsche has had everything important replaced. It's a testament to Porsche's build quality that I've done many repairs and replacements on the van at only 13 years old that still haven't been needed on the 29 year old 944. Mind you, the cost of parts reflects this!
