Many thanks Brian :D

It has been quite an experience doing this as I've never stripped a car down to this extent before or done such work on my own so it was a very pleasurable drive down the French Autoroutes last week.... and she performed brilliantly at any speed requested of her

Some great tips and pictures here, thanks for sharing. I'm part way through the strip down on my 1986 2.5 Lux and just had the price from my local OPC for the fuel lines which was coming in at just over £700 for all the bits.

Any suggestions from your experience how I can get that down a bit? Any parts you'd recommend definitely to get from OPC and any that can be purchased elsewhere?

I went with OPC for the new fuel lines and plastic clips that hold the lines under the car and I pretty much refurbished everything else myself rather than buy new.

I was lucky that a lot of parts were easily salvageable without too much work but taking things apart carefully did help that :) my parts bill was still around £250 including powder coating various parts and the costs of fuel filter, some bushes, nuts, bolts, paints, etc basically the generic parts came off eBay including CV bolts and various other bolts, nuts, washers.

I bought a few tools and wire brushes and my angle grinder went through some pads but nothing major re costs.

Make sure your OPC gives you the Tipec discount :D

Good luck :D

Thanks, I'm puzzled about some of the OPC costs compared to what I've seen. From what I've been quoted for 944 the hard fuel lines each come in 2 parts and are priced ex VAT as below:

£158.96
£106.92
£108.72
£108.72

So just for the 2 lines under the car it's over £450 before VAT! I'd then got the lines either side of the fuel filter which were another £70+.

If the 968 lines are cheaper, will they fit the 944?

Same here. Been quoted exactly the same prices for a set of lines for my '89 2.7 from my local OPC today

Looking into making up the hard lines myself

Am I right in saying that with some modification, 968 hard lines will fit the 944 (mine is an '89 2.7)?

If I understand correctly, the modification involves adjusting the bends in the hard lines at the ends???

There are several different 968 hard-line part numbers (some NLA), but are these are the correct ones to use:

94435606911 Fuel line
94435603711 Return line

My plan is to cut the hard lines back at the rear end and get Pirtek to make-up flexible lines to avoid having to drop the beam. But at the front end, can I use standard, original 944 hoses from the 968 hard lines to the damper and regulator?

Cheers,

Dave
