I looked at it. At some point I'll put the engine back in.

At least it won't get any worse in there.

It just gets grubbier. The cat seems to enjoy climbing all over it at least.

Still getting water in the passenger rear foot-well which is annoying.

Open the fuel filler flap and make sure the water drain tube is attached as water could leak into the rear foot-well from there. You will have to lift the off-side carpet in the boot (the flap over the rear well) and you can reach up from there. An easy check is to pour water in at the fuel flap end and see if it comes out behind the rear wheel.

Spot on, had the carpet out anyway so ran some water around that area, sure enough it exits underneath the car, but only via the drain holes inside the rear wheel well!! The drain pipe was disconnected from the filler area. I'f I'd have know how it was meant to be fitted (grommet visible from filler area) I'd have noticed before!!

So I have connected that back up, hopefully that was the cause of my wet rear footwell. Next wash will tell. I know I have some getting in at the top of hatch seal, but it wasn't a lot and was never convinced it was finding its way to the footwell without getting anything else obviously wet.

Another step closer to not being a water feature, lol!!

It has been a busy month, but not as busy as some!

Firstly, the car has spent a good proportion of its time at the bodyshop. Whilst the car was in great shape the rear of the rear arches was not. New metal was let in in addition the rear of the car being tidied up. At the same time I took the opportunity to add some styling additions. These may not be to everyone's tastes but I prefer the look of the car now it has to be said :):

And some night time shots. Better shots shall arrive at a later date!:

Furthermore I had plans for the audio of the car. Purists and non car audio folk may as well look away!

The radio in this car has never been fantastic truth be told. It did not sound too great in addition to the Head Unit (HU) generally looking tired and worn out. That is before you get to it skipping more than MC Hammer's beats and the fact that only half of the buttons illuminated at night time. Not something that one wants in a Porsche! This was something that required amending. Naturally, the photos flatter the appearance of the CD player:

Modern technology has spoiled me though. I wished to have a HU which did the following:

-Had CD MP3 Playback
-The ability to work effectively with iPods and Bluetooth devices
-Allow Bluetooth audio streaming
-Have the ability to account for future audio upgrades (Equalisers, flexible crossovers, time alignment etc.)

This is what I ended up with:

The issue. Around 15 years ago when the Pioneer was installed, someone had used crimped connectors with no ISO block in sight. Great for powering an outdated Pioneer, not so great for running anything else without taking some time. That and crimped connectors have never been that great IMO (with the old Pioneer having connectively issues to boot). I set to make the loom more of a plug and play affair:

Before:

With a spare ISO loom and the soldering iron fired up this was the final result:

After which I decided to sample the new setup. So much so that I have yet to tidy the wires behind the dash (there are now many boxes and wires present, but I shall tidy this later on in the week!) and to remove some of the tools:

So far there have been improvements to the car audio in addition to bringing the 951 partially into the 21st century :).

After finally managing to get my blue 944 to start (half dead battery and dodgy crank sensor) I proceeded to make it ugly. After patching up a bit of rust that was starting to come through on the badge panel I decided to start on the wing where some filler had cracked since I've owned the car. When washing it a while ago I noticed that some rusty water had run out from the crack so thought it was time to do something about it, what I didn't expect was to find around 1mm of filler there and some rather bent metal underneath!

First patch of rust uncovered and sanded back to good (but bent) metal
Image

Second patch dealt with and given a bit of hydrate 80 to stop the rust coming back
Image

And how the poor thing looks now. Looks like it's been in a fight and has been bandaged up.
Image

I'll shove some filler back in the hole at some point and get it back to looking decent before a trip to a bodyshop. Despite the huge amount of filler it was done quite well until the filler cracked!

Just got mine out for a wash and took the chance to inspect the cills as so many seem to be causing issues.

Wow. That is clean. Oddly white looking, although that could be your flash.

I was quite happy. There was no real signs of rust and recently someone has offered to fill with waxoyl or similar using a compressed air line so could stay like this for a long time. All the drain holes were clear which obviously has helped.

Looking back, I don't suppose this has seen a salted winter road since the last owner laid her up in 1992.

Still not sure if I'll be keeping it though

'Quiet day at work, so played hookey for a few hours and took my 944T for a good blast round Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, making the most of a rare spot of sunshine!! Only about 200 miles since the head gasket was replaced, so keeping a beady eye on the coolant level...

Took the afternoon off work to get the car in the air to fit a Dansk exhaust courtesy of JMG (thanks Jon!), a set of 968 castor mounts and to change the box oil. After a thorough inspection underneath I now have a revised parts list for the car... I also fitted the boost gauge at the weekend :)

I changed the boot and bonnet cables.

The boot cable turned out to be a right pain in tha a$$ because the plastic insert on the motor arm pinged off somewhere when I ran it trying to set the cable tension, the tension was too high.

If went off like a rocket so could be any where now

Needle in a hay stack
