With show season approaching and the real need to have a car to drive to Plymouth in 2 weeks time its about time I got my Ar53 in gear and got my 944 back in the land of the living.

After bouts of snow and a few other bits we finally set about the task on Monday. WIth a few issues to solve:

1. Battery was flat - No more work can be done until this gets done as I cant even begin to work out why it wont start if I cant power the ignition

2. The reasoon she has been laid to rest for a while is following a number of weeks sitting idle while insurance company did there usual fannying about the car was truggling to idle and kept backfiring when trying to start and eventually gave up and wouldnt start

3. If I cant get her started she will need to be dragged out of the garage as teh brakes have ceased. The offside rear had been sticking anyway.

4. Need to place new Porsche decal on the repairred bodywork post accident Minor and last on list but it bugs me

Any thoughs, feeling or suggestions would be appreciated

Although the battery is flat,,here is an old mechanics trick (assuming its a manual gearbox)...

IF a car will not start....TOWSTART it.....because IF its ever going to start thats by far the easiest way.....

If it wont start, then you have serious problems...

But give it a try....

All the best getting it going again! All I would say is be methodical & check one thing at a time. Clarks garage has a good trouble shooter. If it's been laid up for a few weeks I would suggest some fresh petrol as well. Have you got a spark? Have you got fuel at the injectors? Has the screw come out of the rotor arm? Then stick the results on here & a better mechanic than me will point you in the right direction

Edit: Have experienced unleaded going off in under 6 weeks with the Westfield. Car was difficult to start & then ran very rough with lots of smoke. One gallon of fresh petrol fixed it instantly.

Charge the battery

Clean/renew the plugs.
Check the dissy cap and rotor.

Fuel should be OK unless its been stood a long time.

Don't tow start it, you say the brakes are siezed.

Right well phase one has been tested the battery is charged and the car sounds like its trying to start but does not fire. Instead we get a huge backfire - I had neighbours ducking for cover

Next step is replacing the dizzy cap and rota arm - parts being delivered monday PM.

Change the plugs first, if its not firing they will be wet and changing the cap will, probably, not make too much of a difference

Oh yes finally after far too long my 944 is back on the road. A few little niggles to sort but shes purring again like she should. Im so happy

Great stuff. Weathers more like Febuary than April though. Lucky you having a garage. Might get blown away trying to fix the washers tommorrow.
