Reading this buyers guide here - http://www.hartech.org/docs/buyers%20gu ... rt%202.pdf they state that one symptom of the head gasket rotting away is the expansion tank always being on the low level. Not sure if this is something to consider?

I was tempted to think it was something that the higher stressed engines would suffer from. Baz hart does say;

Most 2.5 8 valve 944's are so torquey that they are not being driven so hard as to get too hot these days (and run very cool anyway in the cylinder area) and probably not enough for a problem to occur
I guess that means even with a coolant short the engine wont be damaged.

Hoorah! I found my leak. It's coming from the join of the plastic joint on the front of the pump. (hose to header tank). Only trouble is I've disturbed it now and it's really coming out! Anyone know if it's a gasket or sealant? In other words can I fix it now or wait for a part to be ordered!

My old 944S always sat at the max on the expansion tank, never moved in 6 years

Shame on you for not changing the coolant for 6 years :lol:

Reminds me I must sort the leak on mine this weekend :oops: Mine is just the odd drip from the rad side of the new rad>thermostat hose I fitted, tightened the clip to far from the lip but doing 12 miles a day I've sort of ignored it as well

The elbow warps with age. It is sealed with an o ring. Promax will do you a new one for a couple of quid.
