924's have a very low financial value. My advise would be to only buy a running car with a full (or very long MOT).

They are simple cars to work on and most mechanical maladies can be fixed cheaply with second hand parts off a well known auction website. Having said that, clutches are expensive to put right and you won't see any change from £600 if you have it done at a garage. This is usually enough to write the car off :(

Engine mounts can be weak, if they are shot, you will feel it on tickover and when braking as the engine tries to keep going. New ones are expensive, uprated racing mounts are £100+ each.

Gearbox mounts are also likely to be shot and new replacements are not available.

Body condition is key. Early cars were only part galvanised, later cars were better protected. Sills do rot but you can ispect these internally via the grill in the door jam. Put a mobile phone down there with a camera and a light and you might be able to get some clear images. In general, they rot a bit less than 944's but even the latest car is now 25 years old.

The other place that they rot is the battery tray. If they rot through, you will have electrical problems as there are fuses and relays underneath this area. Maks sure all electrics work.

Go for a long test drive, make sure everything works. Generally, if you get a good one, they are reliable and cheap to run. My insurance is £111 per annum with RH.

All the best

David

Thanks Fullchat, some good info there. Realise they are old now, had one back around '86. Just want a runaround for the missus. Basically, don't want to run two 94's. Will try and get a decent one, rather than cheap.

One again, thanks for that info. Gives a good idea what to look for.

Les
