Im loosing the will to live here, Right so I've replaced everything around the fuel pump, hoses and seals, rebuilt it all twice which isn't fun, went out this morning and it's still leaking, the only thing it can be now is the fuel pump itself. Is this possible? The rubber surround around the pump gets full up with fuel.
Has anybody known the pump to fail and leak?
Help!
Rich.

the fuel pressure can be as high as 3.5 Bar ! so it only takes a tiny scratch in a gasket ,a burr on a joint or slight distortion to allow a leak.

I would dismantle everything and rub the mating surfaces of everything on some very fine wet and dry paper laid flat .
If you can't take the part to a bench then wrap some wetndry around a flat bar of metal or tool and take it to the car. It must be perfectly flat and ideally glued to a flat backing.

You should then be able to spot any high or low spots on the joint surfaces . If you find any you'll need to work at it with various grades of wetndry until flat and even.
When you put it back together obviously you'll need a new set of gaskets but you could try adding a smear of red hermatite .Make sure it doesn't get squished into the fuel ways when you torque it all up again.

I suspect the fitting on the end of the pump is loose. Take it apart again, remove the nut & fuel hose. You are left with a fitting screwed in the end of the pump - it is a real pain to get a spanner onto. Take it off, buy some new copper washers, clean & reassemble. You may have to 'make' a spanner to fit the fitting but you need to ensure it is proper tight.

I think it's ok now, it might just have been fuel left in the rubber sock that I could still smell. yeah I did that both times, I used the red hylomarr and thread tape on the valve, had it all off on the bench and did it as tight as I could hoping it wouldn't snap! I think it's ok now, I'll make sure when I get in tonight.

fingers crossed

I personally never recommend silicon based gaskets as silicon beads can break off inside the housing (when the joints are tightened ) The silicon beads can then migrate and cause blockage problems elsewhere in the system. It is probably ok upstream of the fuel filter but in the oil ways I have seen bits of silicon gasket wreck an engine by blocking the oil feeds to vital parts. They get forced into tight oilways by the oil pressure and are a b***** to locate and remove
