Hi All,

Had a brake master cylinder fail on my 944 last week, so its off road to replace this.
WHilst I have had it off the road, I have noticed some leaks from the engine which were new:

1) Power steering reservoir leak - you can see where the fluid is leaking from the reservoir, running down the back of the feed pipe and then dripping on to the large water coolant pipe to the water pump. Is this a known leak area? Are the reservoirs known for fracturing?
2) oil leak from the LHS of the engine (looking from the bonnet back). It definitely is NOT from the front of the engine. I'm thinking either the oil filter, oil pressure sender or even the whole housing there. I cannot see any other leaks from the cam tower - could it be something else?
3) Water leak - just noticed a slight pooling of coolant from round the coolant hoses too - I am hoping this is a weak pipe rather than a failing water pump/gasket!
4) I also spooted what looked like some weeping from the neack area on the coolant reservoir - I've had these fail on 924 turbos before - is it also a known problem for 944s?

So - lots of leaks!!
Thanks

Ian

1 yes. I cured this leak on mine by removing the hose from the res' & cutting an inch off it & refitting it! If it won't be long enough you may need a new piece of hose.
2 If oil is collecting behind the oil filter underneath check the cam seal. With the engine warm & ticking over you may see it dripping down from behind the dizzy with a torch. Looks like the filter if this is the case. (Though it may just be the filter needs a tighten!)
3. Maybe you should drive it more often!
4 Check the cap isn't tired. Replaced my coolant res' but they normally split!

HI All

Just an update - replaced the master cylinder and I have brakes again...!

1) POwer steering leak was a degraded hose as you said JJ which I have cut and reclamped
2) Still haven't sorted the oil leak but defo the leak ends up on the oil filter housing side
3) Water leak - this seems to be a weeping gasket on the front of the water pump where there is a take off hose to the radiator. WIll keep an eye on it - Q) anyone recommend a sealant to use on the outside of a weeping water joint?4) Doh! Hadn't thought of this - will pick up a spare and keep an eye on it too.

Also checked/retensioned the cambelt and balance belt after the 1K run in period.
Thanks
Ian
