Hi,

Just wondering thoughts on Induction kits for the 944 Turbo. My air filter needs replacing and I was gonna just put a bog standard panel filter in. Then I started reading about K&N panel filters or cone filters.......

What do you guys think.....keep it original or not??

Differing opinions on here, performance filter seems the most cost effective for results gained. I've got a cone filter personally for the sound it produces and Jon M has tested extensively and found no significant high levels of hot air being drawn into the cone to reduce performance but I still would like to see some sort of engine screening around mine so looking into doing that soon. The induction roar is fab though

I found I lost power on my n/a 16v and it sounded quiter. Could been the brand off cone filter I tryed. I guess with a turbo you have a higher chance off gains but fule would need 2 match it.

Just fitted a K&N panel to my S2 and it seems to have improved the responsiveness of the car, although I doubt that it has done much to enhance power or torque figures . I would have thought that a cone would be best for a Turbo, as they suck in more air when the turbine's spinning, but best to make sure that it is cool air, not stright out of the engine compartment.

I would be interested to see rolling road figures before and after fitting an induction kit. I reckon it's more a placebo effect especially if it makes the engine roar.I would think the cooler air coming in under the wheel arch would be better.The panel filter does seem to make sense in the fact that you can clean it rather than replace.

K and n is all just good marketing. A unversal cone fliter with a porpose built mounting hard wear. There's all so carbon dynamics which claim 10-15bhp.

I posted a link awhile ago, were some race breed 944 did a leak down test and found the k and n let more grit in 2 the engine. Resulting in scored valves.

Sure the engine will only take in what it needs the rest will be wasted. I'm sure the stock air boxes provide more then needed. There restrictive noise wise. But profomance?

Maybe if your driving about a full tthrotal. Bold air is mire imporatin then more air, cold intercooler?

Unless you had heavyly changed your engine from stock. ( turbo ) I would just change the filtter more offeten.

I used a promax chip, and they stated mapping if 4 a cone filter. I didn't notice a gain, put the stock back on, and it felt like an upgrade.

There is lots of interesting stuff on K & N & other types of these filters on the interweb. Certainly as a filter they are less than stellar which is a concern, meaning that the HP you get today won't be there tomorrow also your engine will have stepped closer to a rebuild.
