Before the bonnet comes up and work starts can you guys let me know if I've missed anything off my parts list for a front end service :)

Belt & Tensioner kit
Water pump & gasket
Thermostat kit and circlip
Front seals kit
Cam top hat
Balance shaft top hats

Am I good to go, have I missed anything out, am I right sitting here thinking maybe I should spend a bit more and renew all the bolts while it's apart too (ie them damn water pump bolts that may or may not come off lol)

If I'm good to go fingers will be crossed that my pin wrench arrives by the weekend and the rain holds off :bounce:

If not I'll keep on shopping and wait another week, in no big rush so long as she's sorted for a bank holiday run down to the Isle of Wight.

Yup water pump bolts would be my thought. If you have the flywheel lock you can get away without the rest of the bits.

You may need an oil pump drive gear depending on whether there is much of a groove in it.

Just doing the same job myself.

Better have a look first. Stuck with original bolts for my water pump as it would mean taking the engine out to swap them. Steel bolts alloy engine. Not easy to take them out. Don't forget to protect the crank seal from the teeth on the oil pump drive gear. Tape works without disturbing it.

Water pump came off with ease  so shouldn't be too many nasties from here on fingers crossed :bounce:

Called it a day for now as a few pipes are starting to perish so adding those to my shopping list and I may as well change the oil pump drive gear anyway for the sake of a few extra quid while it's apart.

I need a cambelt rear cover it's obviously been hacked about for the newer style water pump at some point in it's life and then badly fitted so the cambelt has been cutting into it. Seem to be able to find the front covers but not the back part. Any ideas where to try?

Final point for now, I've read that the belt tension tool makes a click, mine doesn't seem to do they all make a click or have I ended up with a faulty one?

Thanks for the tips so far guys especially on the oil pump drive gear seems totally pointless not to change that for what it costs when doing the front end.

The cambelt cover cutting needs to be quite aggressive to clear the belt & the bigger roller. I do have the Porsche TSB that covers it if you want a copy ping me a mail from 'ere.

Yup Krikit will make a click when used properly.

Thanks for that Jim, just found the TSB in one of your previous postings, little wonder the belt had eaten in to mine, previous cut had only taken out around a 1/3 of what needs to be cut by the looks of it.
