My readout from the alignment done last year. They attached like mirror things on the wheels and a laser pulsed from the front of the car and the mechanic adjusted the various components under car until he got the readings he required. This tyre company had done lots of aligments for JMG and so the N/S wheel is adjusted slightly different for a reason and is why the camber is showing red on the printout. Cost £25 all in and transformed the car.

AerialAndy, was that a standard 4 wheel alignment on your 944 by Christchurch Tyre or a "geometry check" - £25 is cheap as chips?

Any tire recommendations?

There's a few threads if you search for 'tyre' - some about choice, some about pressures.

Here's one about choice viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2778

Here's one about pressures viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2056

After all the research I chose Goodyear Eagle F1. They have been on there for 18000 miles so far, and have plenty of tread left on them. I am on standard 16" D90s, but after talking to Porsche's tyre expert in Chester (I phoned Porsche head office with my query and they put me onto their expert) I run mine at 34psi.

His quote "36psi sis fine for billiard table smooth German roads, but 34psi will make your tyres last longer and give you a smoother ride".

P zero rosso are a very soft tyre and 6000 is about the maximum you could expect out of them.

One of my sets lasted only 2000

That is more a reflection on your driving Paul  Any truth in the rumour that the boys have to wear neck braces against the G force when in the back?

 Possibly but I don't wheelspin or slide anywhere and don't use maximum acceleration from standstill.

By contrast the following set of Michelins lasted 16000 for an outlay of £100 more on the pair. I do find the pzero slightly better during the winter for 'pressing on' though.

Hi,

I'm running Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's on the back and Pirelli P6000's on the front, both on 17" Turbo alloys. The P6000's are no longer available hence the P-Zero's on the rear.

I've found the tyres to wear well and even although they do tramline like a bugger. Tyres are inflated to 36psi all round, again with no issues.

Ben :bounce:

They adjusted camber, caster, toe, steer ahead and thrust angle settings. Definately fitted a device to each wheel and a red laser was pulsed from the front to each wheel. As you can see from the printout it was only the toe setting that needed adjusting as the rest was pretty good and within the parameters. He adjusted some of them as although showing a green ok sign they were near the edge so he brought them back to the middle of the range. Took about 20 mins all told. The invoice just says wheel alignment but a laser device was definately used. Whats involved in a geometry setup then?

They do the same thing, but the old fashioned way with a ruler, a set-square, a protractor and some bits of string
