Battery was flat so remote release wouldn't work. Tried the key in the hatch but the cable snapped - it never rains..... Crawled in the back and released by manually twisting the key lock. Battery is now charged but remote release button does not activate the locks, and of course the key is no use. A new cable is being sourced from Alasdair (sulzeruk).

Any ideas anybody?

Thank you.

I think yours is an S2 in which case the release is electric only no mechanical link. The cable connects the motor to the lock itself. With a charged battery it should work. I suspect you'll need to wash the lock out with WD40 then some graphite from a pencil to get it moving. Worst case is strip the lock.

Hi Jim,
Do you mean grind up some pencil 'lead' and stick it in the lock?
Regards
Paul

Further investigation shows that the remote switch is working as the motor is turning. It's just very quiet - all the noise must be made by the locks themselves moving. Replacing the cable and a good cleaning and lubricating of the locks as per Jim's instructions will fix the problem. May be a stupid question, but I assume the softer the lead the better.

While I was there I emptied and dried out the rear lights and the spare wheel well, so I'll also be replacing the lock seals, and rear hatch seal.
