The guys who went to Porscheshop will know I got my car back (I was there in it  )As some of you may have known, my 944 had a terminally ill engine (I say terminally, but it wasn't economical to repair at any rate). Over a week ago I sent it into a local specialist to get it all sorted out after I aquired another engine.

With the new engine I undertook a couple of jobs I would have undertaken with the old engine(if it had been fine), and some precautionary ones. These included getting both belts and all of the rollers/chain changed, getting the cam timing done via a dial gauge, oil leaks sorted (crank seal went on the old engine, and it was only changed a few years ago...) in addition to a new clutch (the precautionary item).

So what is it like now it's back? Well, I can hear myself think for a change in addition to not annoying the neighbours everyday the car started up (the video showed the noise after the car had a good 40 minute run on a motorway, it was worse when it was cold).

Besides that it seems to idle better and whilst it pulled well before (I could still just about pull away from my mate in his Peugeot 306 GTi-6 (known to have good power via a dyno 1/4 mile runs etc.)) it's improved. The low end seems similar but above 4k it stills kicks as the old engine did, but this time it really gets into its stride.

It's not been cheap but I do now have a car I'm pretty happy with. In all fairness to it, it has done around 3,000 miles since I bought it without putting a foot wrong. Something a mate couldn't say about his dad's VW Passat which cost quite a bit more than my car to put right despite him paying good money and it being fine at the time of sale (FVAGSH etc.)

Niggling issues left now are a heater that's permanently hot (it was ok before it went in) (Possibly the old heater valve was in better condition) and it still tramlines a little (I recently changed a wishbone not too long ago. I suspect after tracking it and getting 968 mounts it should behave a little better (it still handles surprisingly well) although I reckon it having 17s will not help matters much there without the 968 mounts.

Anyway, here are some pics. Yes I should have wiped the stains off the old rocker cover but they can wait until tomorrow :).

Well, the heater now seems to be cured. It was down to the 90 degree elbow that goes from the vacuum line to the Heater control valve in the heater line. Cool air grace me again :D.
