As you may know i took my car to an independent specialist after buying to make sure that it was not a death trap.

The car got the all clear - but the indie did give me a few advisories - some of which needed urgent attention (i will come to this in a moment).

Bottom line is that he wanted £1000 more to correct these on top of the £953 i already spent with him. I had to walk away as i couldn't afford this after just shelling out for the car and insurance.

I bought the parts from good sources including Berlyn, Porscheshop etc. Now i need to fit them.

Parts in question are:
    Clutch flexi hose
    PAS Steering pipes (3)
    N/S Front wishbone

My local garage have a labour rate of £39/hour+vat. He wants £305 to fit these parts. Am i being spun a yarn?

So my question to you boys is:

Is there anyone out there that could help me with this? Obviously i would pay for your time.
Can any of this be done at the Porscheshop open day on saturday?

Yup I'd guess three hours tops, wishbone is 45 mins, clutch hose 1 hour leaving the rest for the PAS & a cuppa. Technically the suspension geo should done after the wishbone is changed but I'd reset it with the gauge back to where it is. I'm in Chatham, Kent but someone will be closer!

Thanks for the offer of help Jim. Its nice to know that my suspicions were right.
I phoned my specialist and asked him what he thought. He told me that to do the stuff in the list, plus the cam box gasket would cost £500+vat. Neither garage can perform the alignment - this is a further £109.99 at the local tyre place.

Again - i think im getting ripped off. :?

Please can anyone out there closer help? I will pay - but not over the odds.

Rav,
Who have you tried for the alignment?
Imperial tyres did mine but you might try Neil Garner too although i doubt it will be much less.

David - it was imperial tyres.
Pm me the details for this Garner chap.

I also heard that Micheldever near Newbury on the A34 are good and possibly cheaper.

Good to meet you Rav, thanks for the gauge.
I haven't used Neil but as an ex F1 mechanic he does come recommended!
May well take the 21 there next year.

Clarence Johnson was the other chap - marlborough rd, old town.

I'd fit them for £200 with your Tipec Discount... I can also get a geo done, but we are talking proper geo from center gravity, which will cost approx £250, anything else is just tracking, which a local "National Tyre" will probably do for around £30.
