Has anyone used or have fitted a strutbrace on their 944. Keep seeing them crop up on Ebay and have wondered if they would have any great effect on a 944T which already has MO30 suspension on it anyway. Is it really a track thing or would it help on a road application or just make it worse. Be interested to hear your views so I can put one on my 'to do' list or put it out of my head

I don't have one but those who do say that it makes a considerable difference. For race use then I suspect it needs bracing back to the bulkhead but it would make a difference in road use.

Thanks Jim. In what way does it improve. I guess turn in as blurb on company website says it stops the negative camber going over to positive on hard turning. How hard do you have to go to cause this effect? Trying to decide if I'm going to notice it on a normal drive on a normal road. Also with my 300+ bhp I'm getting (hopefully next week) would it control these horses better. I think you'll all say 'depends on how you drive', well normally restrained but if the occasion lets me ..............

be careful which brace you buy, some come across the engine bay and don't clear the brake fliud reservoir, a smaller reservoir is available as a retro fit ... but is it worth the hassle ?

Not really to do with power, but bigger, wider stickier tyres & stiffer, lower suspension are an issue. Both will flex the suspension towers, the ultimate being cracked towers & inner wings. This why race & rally shells are seam welded, although they still suffer fatigue. This is why works cars will be rebuilt into new race shells fairly frequently.

As Jim has already said, any brace needs to be triangulated against the bulkhead in order to work properly. Youll need a bottom brace too if you want to do it properly: youll need to look West for these though...

I have fitted a weltmeister strut brace to mine. I bought it from ebay so it wasn't as if I went looking for that particular make, but it works quite well. I must admit I didn't expect much when I was fitting it, I was planning it just to be one part of my suspension refurb. However the car was a very slightly better on turn in and seems to understeer very slightly less. As said I think full triangulation to the centre of the bulkhead would be better, but I thought it was a noticable change.

It only just cleared the bracket for the fuel damper so I cut a bit away fo piece of mind.

Thanks for info Dave and everyone else, another positive feedback for fitting one so it looks like 1x strut brace to go on the wish list. I'll see what JMG can do when I collect car from having it's upgrades fitted this week.

I think it will work well with a series of upgrades and a set of sticky tyres.
