As in my earlier post I've been chasing a failed radiator fan. Simple?
Well I shorted out the radiator sensor and the fan ran , so I ordered a new temp sensor thinking it was sensor problem. While waiting for that the fan failed again completly. Yes you can drive at speed about 50 miles or so without noticing, but minutes in traffic and overheating! At the weekend I was going to fetch the failed fan out but got distracted. Overheats the next day so I order a fan off ebay. Fan came today and I took the old one off. Er er - only with it off could I see what the problem was ( the angle is wrong when you look down on it) The fan support frame was not screwed to the rad at the bottom, only the top two screws. The fan connector is close to the drive pully on the end of the crankshaft. The fan had been hitting the pulley probably under acceleration and ground away the contact block right down to the wires and more so little wonder it was no longer working.
New (breaker sourced) fan works great. Old rad sensor works fine. I can probably rescue the old fan if I cut it up a bit and add a new connector block. Lack of two screws meant £35 for a replacement fan......
