Yes it can be done I have just changed my rubber spoiler for an original 968 spoiler and surround on my 1989 S2. The only difficulty is fitting the rear surround, you will have to make some brackets and bolt them on through the holes in the tailgate surround,this is a bit fiddly but quite easy. The fixing brackets are fitted to the 968 tailgate but not to the rubber spoiler type. I would check to make sure that your tailgate is the same as that on my car (a 1989 S2)

From advice given me it's easier to get hold of a late S2/968 complete hatch and swap over. That's what I did to my 944. Put a 968 turbo s spoiler on which is just slightly bigger then the bridge version. I had a look at removing the rubber spoiler but my screw fixings were rusted right in and the head just sheared off. I got a complete hatch off Ebay, it was quarter the price of a fibreglass kit. Took off the spoiler and cleaned. Took whole hatch to be sprayed to match body colour and the sprayer fitted the spoiler back on the hatch and sealed water tight. Collected and then just 4 screws to fit in and align. Maybe someone more technical then I can help more if you want to remove the existing rubber spoiler.

I've fitted a bridge spoiler to a 924 hatch. Problem is you have to drill holes for the bridge as the ones for the rubber spoiler are in the wrong place. Since your so close to the glass you need to take the glass out first or risk breaking it. I had to take the glass out to reseal the thing anyway. So long as you can find a good condition rear spoiler with the bridge attached then thats the way to go. It wasn't a very easy job with out a jig to hold the glass. If you use your existing hatch you will need the finishing strips to cover the old holes in the frame. (924 one didn't have any.)
