Several years ago I got married. Did the decent thing & sold my pug rallye for a proper car. It cost silly money to insure & always needed parts. Then spent some years in the wilderness driving sheds. Cars so boring you could fall asleep at the wheel without trying. Then after a garage bill of epic proportions & frightening depreciation. I started looking for another shed a bit newer. After another fruitless search on ebay I hit the link for sports cars & there in front of me was my dream car. A red 944 for sensible money. Cheap to insure. Bought it. Spent loads on it. But still no more than if I'd bought a shed. But this is fun. Yes it's temperamental. Frustrating at times. But never boring. For the price these are now. Why buy anything else? Life is short. :)

I used to chop and change my car regularly,I would get bored after a few months and sell it....Then I bought my 944 and 3 years on I still love it1 :D When you consider the running costs of insurance etc these cars are soooo cheap with a Mondeo comparison in price.

couldnt agree more! Weve had a holiday with our 944 for the last 5 years and it swallows up everything we want to take including walking boots wellies etc.plenty of room and the performance too! I fail to see the point in buying a modern car and losing all the value in depreciation.some people say old cars are unreliable but cars are as reliable as you make them,i.e.regular maintenance and replacemant of worn parts etc gives you a good reliable car and lets face it ,theres nothing you cant get for 944s. Mines 25 years old now and my daily car (volvo 240 estate) is 20 years old and still going strong.I paid £3500 for my 944 5 1/2 years ago and £1300 for my volvo 10 years ago and neither have cost me very much over the years. even though its a buyers market at the moment I m sticking with what I ve got!! :)

I totally agree too - my 1982 944's my pride and joy, as it was when it belonged to my late brother. It is a sight to behold me getting in and out of mine - when you're 6ft 7inches and 21 stone with an arthritic hip it's a bit of a struggle... But I wouldn't swop it for ANYTHING

LONG LIVE THE 944!

Hey Baz,im 6"7" as well, although only 13 stone, but these cars were biult for blokes our size.no doubt youve tried driving MGBs ,Spitfires, midgets etc.those are all delightful for masochists, but the 944 is spot on for me!! :) :) :)

I remember trying to get in and out of my MG Midget. Usually ended up performing various yoga moves on the pavement to get behind the wheel.
It had to go :!:

I remember my Dad bought a Fiat 126(revamped 500)in 1978.He was 3" shorter than me but you should have seen the looks of disbelief when we parked it and got out.Im not sure if they thought maybe we couldnt afford a bigger car or if they just couldnt believe we had ever managed to get in it in the first place! :)
