I'm changing the timing belt and discovered that my 'auto tensioner' wont be doing any 'auto tensioning' as it's missing some parts ...like a spring for one.

So I need to get a replacement unit or repair the one I have - Does anyone have a good spare or new/used parts to repair.

Steve

Id suggest buying a new one. Get a price from your OPC and maybe ECP too and take it from there...

And I'd try Bert at Berlyn. Sure I wouldn't hazard a s/h one.

I realise that the purpose of the missing spring is to tension the belt after which he unit is locked in place with the bolts. Without the spring, i have to tension manually - same as I would have to with the older, non auto, unit. I have no qualms about using a s/h unit as I'll check the tension anyway. I just want the unit complete as was intended. I suspect a new unit will be criminally expensive - Pelican says ~$300 so I expect UK supplies to be ~£300 - but i'll ask on monday. What I need is someone with a scrap engine!

You really don't want to put that back on or use a s/h part without replacing the toothed pulley and baring bit. The Auto tensioning isn't any good either you need to use the official Porsche tool or the Arnworx one. http://www.arnnworx.com/new_tensioning_tool.htm
Ben.

Thnaks Ben - I do have a repalcement 'tensioner wheel' to go in. I already have a tensioner guage to check belt tension. I'd just like to get the missing spring replaced or replace the unit with a complete one. Steve
