so driving home last night, doing 30mph and the speedo suddenly drops to zero then picks back up

does this 2 or 3 more times on way home and this morning is fine

any ideas whats causing this? Is this likely to be a gear gone/going? If so, how easy are they to change and are there any handy tutorials anywhere online?

Starting to think my favourite new moneypit just doesn't like the cold.

Normally a bad connection somewhere between the speedo head & the gearbox.
